Default My veccy c 2.0dti non starter

Hi all i had the injector seals done on on my car last month as i had a loud diesel noise/knock under acceleration when driving under load also bad starting every few days. Anyway i got my car back and the loud diesel noise is still there and the bad starting didnt seem as bad but was slightly there with a little bit of smoke so i took the plastic cover off the top of the engine on friday last week to have a look around, first i found a wrong bit of pipe for the leak off pipe to number 1 crossover nozzle so i bought a couple of meters of leak off pipe and replaced the long bit of pipe (from fuel pump to t-piece) which wasnt replaced last year and i went to change the wrong bit of leak off pipe but when i tried to put the right pipe onto the crossover nozzle it wouldnt go on so i had a look at the crossover nozzle where the leak off pipe goes to it and there was a bit missing so i got the mechanic to source a 2nd hand crossover nozzle which he fitted today, i was at work but the wife said it took him 45 mins to get my car started, he took it for a run and said its ok now, but my wife went to our car couple of hours later and it wont start again, turns over but wont fire. Ive checked all pipes etc, everything looks ok. My concern is the mechanic brought no tools, torque wrench etc, ive only got a screwdriver set which has a adapter to use quarter inch drive sockets so he either hasnt lifted the camshaft and just pulled the crossover nozzle out damaging the injector seal or he has removed the camshaft covers and not torque wrenched them up. Im also wondering if he has done the injector seals job right in the first place with still having the same symptons.
Could there still be air in the fuel system even though he got it started and took it for a run.

If he got it started then there was no air in the system if the car ran fine. Injector seals are unlikely to cause a non starting problem. Maybe some difficulties but it would start eventually...at least that's how my mate's DTi behaves

Check my how 2 on how to start a DTi

Yeah good how 2 that m8. Anyway my veccys in at another garage to check it over and if needed get the injector seals done again as i have no confidence in the garage who did the job originaly espeicially finding the wrong leak off pipe fitted to one of the crossover nozzles and the crossover nozzle being damaged. Should find out tomorrow what the outcome is.

I thought it was a suspicious price from the start. I bet they didn't even take the rocker cover off
    Good luck mate.

3 main reasons for bad starting..

glow plugs.. but will start without them
leak off pipes... lots of cranking
injector seals - lots of cranking
diesel pump!! seals let in air...

Had my injector seals done, was fine for a year, then bad probs again.. turns out they 'lifted' the camshaft and pinched the new seals underneath the camshaft

Im sure thats what the first garage did and didnt fully remove the camshaft as i said at the time when i was buying the seals etc if i should buy a new camshaft sprocket bolt and they said they wouldnt be removing the camshaft so it does sound like 'pinched seals'. Best thing i could do is to get the next garage to re-do the seals as vauxhall said in january that the loud diesel noise/knock is the injector seals.

Just an update to my prob with my veccy. The 2nd garage has had a look at my car and said they think the leak off pipes havnt been fitted correctly which is allowing air in the fuel system. The first garage i had the injector seals done with had to remove and refit the leak off pipes so it looks like they were at fault. The garage got my car started, switched it off and went back to it and its just turning over again so i'll have to wait til tomorrow.

My veccy is sorted now, turned out the leak off pipes were fitted badly letting air into the fuel system. The garage replaced all of the leak off pipes including the long one to the fuel pump. Car now starts great and theres no smoke. I'll see how it goes over the next few days. I had the leak off pipes done last year by the other garage so im wondering if they have been badly fitted from day one, probably didnt need the injector seals done.
