Default Which smaller car (172 or St170)

    Looking for unbiased opinions here
Selling my 3series Bmw (2003 and 65k) and have been offered
    04 plate 39k Clio Cup 172 and £1k Cash
52 Plate 62k St170 with upgrade pack and £1500 Cash
Both are what i am after really (fast - ish hatchback)
Head says the St170, Heart is Clio 172
Only selling the Bmw as id rather have some extra money for Las Vegas and desperatley need a Hatch for work.
What do people think is the best option?

obviously milage, condition, history etc should matter to your decision but all this aside,
    the clio.

fantastic little cars, very quick no matter how you look at it, great on twisties, actually reliable! and good on fuel aswell!

the problem is, they are much smaller than the focus so obviously if you need to cart passengers about at times the clio isnt your best choice, also the focus actually isnt as fast as the clio due to weight etc but im sure you already know things like this.

ive been in the focus aswell and the clio i feel is deff a happier ride for me.

    hope my opinion helps mate

I do need a car which ahs to ferry people about from time to time.
i need something pretty safe too, Clio concerns me slightly as ive been use to fairly big cars for the last 4 years, Focus is fairly big Clio is very small.
    Appreciate your help though
    Cheers

Focus looks not bad but to me lacks the nack to put a smile on my face a bit boring..

clio- quick handles good..pretty decent on fuel

I'd steer clear of the Renault. Lots of electrical probs. My mate had the newer 200 bhp clio and went through a gear box, 2 ecu's and lots visits to the garage for stupid electrical faults. I've had a go of the St focus and its a great car for the price. Proper family sized as well.
    regards

Ive owned a 04 ST170 and it was a cracking car. Not as quick as a clio sport but would out handle one. If its fully loaded like the one I had then its alot more car for the money. I averaged 28-30mpg on short journeys and got 36mpg when I traveled to Newbury in it to pick a car up for the Mrs.

Most definately the Focus for me. More reliable and although its not that quick, it will put a smile on your face !

Also, a lot lot more room inside.

I had a nice low mileage 172, fantastic car but was always worried about it's fragile nature. Having said that, it never had a problem in the 2 years I owned it and would always put a smile on my fice. Very comfortable with loads of extras and an excellent NCAP rating, and considered very safe, although the Cup does not have ABS or ESP to cut down on weight.
My heart would say Clio but my head would say Focus, although slower.

Well ive made my mind up on the Focus St
Im not looking for something overly fast, but the interior and options on it are far better than what the clio 172 has.
The chap is getting the cambelt done and i am having the bmw mot'd before we exchange for everyone piece of mind.
    Thanks for the opinions fellas.
