    Default Air-con condensor..

Just had mine in the dealer today 'cause the air was not cold.. Hoped it would be done under network Q as I only bought the car 9 months ago (and its only 18 months old)..

Apparently they tell me the condensor is holed - probably by the small moon-rocks thrown up from Gordons' first class road system.. This is obviously not covered by NetQ.

The quote to fix is just shy of £500

I don't think its too hard to do myself (bar the de-gas and re-gas) is it? What sort of costs would a replacement condensor be, anyone know?

    TIA

Not a difficult job at all....

De-gas... not a concern - if the condenser is holed then there's probably sod all left in the system anyway.

Remove - refit condenser - if you have a Haynes book to hand, not hard.... if you don't, take things steadily and you'll probably work out what you need to do.

Re-gas... local KwikFit... get them to bung it on their machine, it pressure tests the system and if sound it then evacuates it and fills with refridgerant.

Generic condensers... around the £120 mark.

    Thanks Gents..

I've been having a look around, and can only find them for £200+

I shall keep looking, and see what I can find. Looking at the manual of lies, the hardest part appears to be removing the bumper.. I take it there's no difference between the facelift, and the preface (which is what the Haynes covers)?

I got my last one for my old Omega from this bunch... it came quick and fitted/worked pefectly. Just select the right one for your model/engine/transmission.

did you have to evac the system first or was it already empty?

My car went in for the same fault yesterday, again only 18 months old, bought 6 months ago.

The air con compressor was not even starting and was told there is a hole in the air con rad.

They quoted me £440, but eventually agreed to £330 all in.

Very unfortunate, but one of those things.

I have the same problem, hole in the condensor, three year old vectra, problem started last summer (Regas it then everything seem working only for a while and then came the winter). Took it in this morning and fetch it in the afternoon, at least they did not charge me for the check, as i told them that there is a leak in the system beforehand, anyway they have quoted me £486.45 for the repair, no way i am paying that.
With so many Vauxhall owners having the same problem, surely this should be a recall. Just thinking about it, why does stones get to the condensor so easily, is it because of the big holes in the upper and lower grille. Or is it just cheap condensor they use.
