    Smile Dab radio

    Hello,
I'm looking to change my cd30 in my facelift to a vauxhall dab radio?

Which unit is best to look for, would I need an updated screen and how hard would it be to wire a dab aerial in?

Has anyone done this and how much would I be looking to spend?

I don't need sat nav, so was just looking for something standard.

    Thanks

As long as you get the whole lot Radio/screen/DAB box/Aerial and wiring it should be a straight swap

Tricky bits to get are the DAB to H/U link cable, and also the DAB aerial...
as said above, if you can get the whole package from one car, then it is pretty much a straight swap.

The link cable is easy enough to knock up yourself with a few scrappy connectors and a few lengths of coloured wire - as I think you would otherwise need half a dash loom just for the link piece

So if I bought the second link on eBay above, that would be all I need?

Is the screen different to the cd30 basic screen?

the CDC40 can be fitted, but it is NOT plug and play...
You'll need conversion leads, alternative plugs and good wiring diagrams...

Only worth doing if you are good with electronic schematic diagrams and are reasonably good with making up link cables / looms.

I know some have done it, but most have struggled with types of connectors, making up the looms as necessary and the DAB link cable and aerial base.

Is that for the pre facelift?

The DAB system is for the facelift vehicles...those currently fitted with CD30, CD50,CD70 etc

The problematic wiring that I mention is with regard to half-can vehicles (2002 to 54 plate).
These are fitted with ISO connectors (36 pin on head-unit and 18 pin on base model screens) and standard aerial plugs...but no DAB system.

Very late 54plate / 05 onwards are full can vehicles with quadlock connectors - 40 pin for head-unit and 32 in the screen. All aerials (radio / dab and sat-nav) are Fakra type.

    hope that helps
