    confused 'Whiring' noise!! Help!!

Hi all I have started to hear what can only be described as a whiring noise from the front end when driving, it sounds worse if coasting and if going faster.
    Any ideas?
Could be diff or brakes rubbing?
Not very tech minded so am clutching at straws!!!
    Cheers

Not a lot to go on really so I'd say try various things to narrow it down....

Coast with clutch up and also with clutch down.

Is is a high pitched or low pitched 'whirr' ?

Check all around each front tyre (all tyre faces) and around the wheel arches. Look for evidence of odd movement or rubbing and for uneven tread wear.

Jack up the front end and spin each front wheel. Also try to 'rock' each wheel while it's off the ground (hands at 12 & 6 then at 3 & 9) to feel if maybe a bearing has problems. Avoid getting in any way under the wheels or car unless it's safely supported on axle stands.

Reach under the car, grab and try to move steering links and any other 'bars' attached to the wheel hubs.

Hopefully you might find something that looks or feels not quite right that will help narrow things down.

Cheers for the advice. If I can't find anything, maybe I'll take my jack and axle stands to a meet this weekend, see if any experienced guys can spot something that a poor novice like me can't.
    Thanks again!!
