Heater / Blower Fan

The fan on my Signum is squealing when it is turned on which i assume is a damaged bearing.

Does anyone know of this problem? or whether the blower can be accessed to change a damanged bearing?

Also where is the blower unit and how do you get access to it? as the sound appears to be coming from inside of the dashboard and is not audible from outside of the car.

Behind the glovebox. I'm sure there's a how2 showing you where it is. IIRC, it's the resistor pack one. You will probably get away with giving it a squirt of oil.

I had the same squealing after I'd had water come through the pollen filter and the resistor kept popping because of the resistance on the motor. I've sorted it and all the fan speeds now work and it's as quiet as a mouse.

1. Remove the glove box - 5 screws.
2. Lay on your back and remove footwell vent pipe - 1 screw and pulls off.
3. Dissconnect x2 plugs to motor supply and resistor.
4. Remove screws from the outer edge of motor ( you'll need a flexible screw driver or similar) - 7 screws
5. Unclip the motor to free it - 3 clips.
6. Remove the motor and housing downward and out of the car (takes a bit of persuading).
7. Turn housing upside down and undo the 3 screws securing the motor and It'll pull out.

From here I generally cleaned everything I could get my hands on and started getting WD40 around the main shaft in anywhere and everywhere that I could. Inbetween doses of WD40 I'd keep rotating the motor to help it work it's way right in.


I poked a rag through one of the openings in the motor and cleaned the magnets whilst turning the motor one way and then the other.


Keep oiling any places where you can get to the shaft of the motor and spin it backward and forwards. If it was like mine I didn't realise how seized it was. By the time I'd finished it was totally different and spun quite freely in an electric motor kind of way.



Just oil it then spin it, oil it and then spin it.




All in all this took me about 2 1/2 hours but I wasn't rushing as I had all day to do it if I had to do it again I think I could have it all done in an hour I reckon.
Hope this helps anyone my motors only been running for a week so far so I can't comment on the long term but right now it's quiet, all the speeds work and considering the stealership wanted to replace it for £230 i'm chuffed with it.
