    confused Cleaned EGR valve

    Hello

    My first posting. 06 1.9CDTi 120 60k

Having read up about the EGR valve problem I took mine out. It was full of carbon so flushed all this out of the metal vavle structure? Then drilled the 3mm hole in valve cap but couldn't get the assembly apart. However, I managed to free up its movement so that I could push the pin in by hand and the spring pushed it back. Put back together and fitted using old gaskets.

Change in the car's performance was and still is amazing. However the spanner light keeps coming back on and occasionally the emissions light. So I borrowed a code reader and got P0400 EGR flow malfunction. Is this because I didin't get the valve apart and clean the spring etc? Will it matter if I leave it as it is? Should I try again and hit the plunger harder?

    Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

Unfortunatly you will have to belt it some!, YOU must have a VERY good STRAIGHT punch and a lump hammer usually gets it shiffted, the code will be conected to the EGR, and again i would make sure the hole in the inlet mnifold is cleaned where the EGR bolts onto(150), clean the boost sensor also!(120+150), When you have the EGR off and parted work the spring by hand on the main EGR body and look at the shaft where it ONLY becomes exposed when you operate the spring! clean and lubricate the shaft that moves in + out of the shroud!, When you have the solenoid parted clean well and lubricate but i wouldnt grease it as it sometimes impaires the solenoid movement.wd40 is fine.

Thanks for that. Will get a punch and try again. Can you get the required punch from B&Q? Was worried about hitting it too hard. Will give it a go at the weekend. Hopefully will take less time and I will not drop the gasket into bottom well!!!

place it over a vise or large socket or even two pieces of wood, but leave room for the inners to drop out!, hit hard and hold the punch Straight!!. I already had a set of punches but you may be able to buy single ones from b+q or a tool shop.

    Default egr

if it is running ok could it be that you have a leak past one
of the gaskets if think that will trigger the light.

Default EGR Valve changed but still loss of power on 1st gear

Hi all. Long time reader, first time poster.

I've got a 2002 (52) Vectra SRi 1.8 petrol ecotec engine with 106.000 miles on the clock.

My car had a terrible loss of power on first gear and the exhaust gas emission light was constantly on, seemed like it would stall when pulling out of a junction, traffic light, etc. I've changed the EGR valve on Saturday, it has improved and the emission gas light has gone off after resetting the ECU , however I feel that there's still loss of power when in 1st gear, not as much as before, but still some.

Is there anything else I should be looking for. I'm not very mechanically minded, but decided to take a more "hands on" approach to my vectra, so help from you guys will be much appriciated.
