Default GSi K&N panel filter - worth doing?

As above, really. What are your opinions or experiences? Does it help boost power or torque? Does it improve the engine sound (already lovely)?

Also, what would be a good price for one?

Different Engine I know, but on my 1.8VVT I've done no airbox mod, just put the panel filter in and its brilliant. Not so much power wise but its responds better and before at 1400rpm the engine used to sound pants and sluggish not smooth as such but now its smooth as silk up the revs. I can also tell you its not because its a new clean air filter as the previous one was only in the car for 6 weeks.

I paid £35 including postage off ebay.

    So go for it!

Thank you, Rebellion8878. It's good to hear from someone that has fitted one that the filter works well.

Really? Better than the K&N and the airbox mod? (I have not done the airbox mod yet but it is on the list... ) I shall have a look on our favourite well-known auction website and see how much they are. Is it a sealed system - as in cool, fresh air? I don't want a cone filter sucking up all that hot air!

    Cheers, guys.

Paul, I've tried a Courtney Sport panel filter on and off for the past two years. I stick it in for a month, get peed off with the roar and stick the original back in for a few months. Then get bored with that one and change back. For the past six months, I've had the original in and don't notice any difference in the way the engine pulls, responds or performs.

Maybe I am being naive but I cannot imagine getting fed up with that noise...
