Cool Astra VXR v.s Spoons CDti

    Ahem.....

Driving home tonight down the Telford Motorway heading back to Walsall when an Astra VXR pulls up beside me..... waiting for the van in front of him to pull over.....

Seeing how fast he approached the van (in the outside lane), I figured he would put his foot down once it had moved out of the way, so I pulled in behind him, to see how mine compared

Now I'm not going to post MPH figures, so you will have to guess for yourselves but NO MATTER HOW HARD HE ACCELERATED, HE WAS NEVER MORE THAN 10 METERS IN FRONT OF ME (not in the same lane I hasten to add), yes slightly pulling away at times, but going nowhere...

When he eventually slowed after 8-10 miles, he pulled over so I could pass him, which I did and he didnt look happy at all.

In fact, when he passed me again, he was scratching his head (seriously)...

    DIESEL POWER ON THE MOVE....

    So my point is....

    a) My Vectra does not look as cool as the Red Astra VXR for sure
    b) My Vectra does not handle as well as a Red Astra VXR for sure
    c) My Vectra does not kick a Red Astra VXR's a55 for sure

BUT, for a big bus, MPG and price, I LOVE MY VECTRA CDTi Cos it dont half surprise people that dont have a clue whats under the bonnet , and that is PRICELESS

I had the same reaction from a Fiat Stilo Abarth driver a while ago, only difference then was that i DID leave him in a cloud of diesel smoke
I have had a play with an Astra VXR down our local by-pass but did'nt have long enough to test anything as he turned off after 2 junctions into town, agree that once the vec is up and running it is a potent machine though.
I keep thinking of debadging the 1.9CDTi but i like to see the look on peoples faces when they see what it actually is

I would love to have continued the journey at our (interesting) speed for longer.... wonder how long his fuel would have lasted....

I LOVE IT.... It really is quick for the running costs.... Very good value

    LOL!

Now imagine the 1.9 CDTi 150bhp in a Astra remapped. Oh yeah thats the 888!!!

    Sorry! Still on a high.

You would need a serious amount of power to leave the Vec for dead IMO

I know I keep 'harping' on about the power of these Diesels, but I can honestly say that its just the right amount of power to have fun with, without loosing your life or license.

Really good balance of cost versus power (in my opinion).... just right...
