    Vehicle : Facelift Insignia/Corsa D

    Trim : LE/VXR

    Engine : 2.0 cdti/1.6 Turbo

    Year : 13/07

Default Hypothetically, could this be done?

If my car were to have a major failure, say the fuel pump went or the engine went into melt down, could I fit another diesel engine, say the 3.0v6 into my car?

Now before people start saying "can bus this" and "can bus that" and "it can't be done", if you were to buy a badly written off vec (rolled and roof is crushed to bits) could you swap all of the electronics from it with the engine into another car?

The only thing that would be different as far as the bcm's are concerned is that they are in a different shell but they aren't that clever (or are they )

It could work out cheaper to buy a Cat B vec than to repair a badly damaged engine

    Just a theory guys

Yeah, as long as money isnt an issue its easy, though I dont see this costing too much itself but how much would an engine from a bust car cost?

    IN THEORY....

... Yes, you could take the engine, gearbox, all relevent ECUs, cables and connectors from one diesel and refit them in another. Apart from the shear time and effort required, the overriding 'stopper' would have to be cost - It would be far cheaper to just buy a complete alternate vehicle rather than try to do all that to your existing one (assuming it had died).

    Theory... Myth Confirmed

    Practice...Myth Implausible through cost.

You'd probably need every single bit of electronics to avoid too much tech2 stuff, but yeahin theory there's no issues with it I'd have thought...

Well you can buy cars that are for breaking only for around a grand (yes that cheap)

As long as it's a good runner then the only thing it should cost is the cost of the car. The rest of it would just be time and I have loads spare

If you were lucky enough you may get a facelift bodied car that the front could be swapped from (assuming its not wrecked of course)

But certain things like airbags etc can be fitted from a scrap car into another one so there is no reason the old ones couldn't be used.

I know that things such as speedo's and door modules etc would all need to come from the doner car but parts such as window motors and switches would surely be compatable

Yeah, definintely - just all the modules, ECU's and immobiliser etc that would need taking across. And if you found a high spec'd one with better looms who knows what else you could add...

Stock parts would just be a straight swap.... engine specific parts and those appropriate to the engine (larger brakes, different radiator, etc) would theoretically come from the donor veh.
