This is a VERY old thread, but I have only just finished the work today.

For information this is for a pre-facelift full can system..
CD70 and CID . The pin numbers and back plate are the same for a half can wheel though, so I could have got one from an earlier car had I thought about it..

The pin out for the connector (as it goes into the CIM)
    are
Pin 1 = Brown/white - right switch and horn power feed
Pin 2= Brown - Ground for switches and the horn
    Pin 3 = Blue/Red - left switch power feed
    Pin 4 = Grey - illumination

Well I finally pulled my finger out and fitted my scroller controls.

The existing back plate had no wires nor pins to attach my scroller plugs to.

So this is what I did..

    Disconnected the Battery
Waited 5 minutes to allow any capacitors to discharge.

I then pulled the steering wheel as far from the dash panel as it would slide to allow access with a screwdriver from behind

A No 2 Philips screwdriver is fed into two small holes and "wiggled about" to release the retaining lugs inside

    The airbag just pulls off..

Disconect the airbag wires (1 x purple and 1 x yellow connectors )

I had to remove a pair of spoke blanks from the wheel..

These are held on by a single Torx screw each - T25 I think...

Then carefully, but firmly - pull them from the rubber spokes.

Then you need to undo 3 x Torx bolts to allow removal of a metal backing plate.
and then behind this is the contact plate.. remove this after removing the connector in the the upper left of the steering wheel boss.

On my contact plate, there were only two wires..
    1 x brown = Horn ground wire
    1 x brown/white = Horn power feed.

I needed to add two more wires..
1 x grey = illumination for the switches
1 x blue/red = power feed for the left switch unit.

Also there were no pins in the little three pin sockets... so I also had to solder these in place...

I got these from spare connectors (male plug obviously).

I temporarily fitted the blue connectors for the scrollers, and used these to hold my pins in place during soldering.

On completion, the whole lot was fitted to the steering wheel, complete with the scroller controls.

The illumination of the controls will work in conjunction with the light switch... but the scrollers will not as they were not programmed in.

The left scrollers do nothing, but the right ones will sound the horn..
(The right controls share the earth and power feed with the horn.)

It is now necessary to program the display and CIM unit
Display - set controls as present
CIM - Set controls to Scrollers.

    The result is working controls....

The images below show the contact plate in it's varying stages..
    1) As it came off the car
    2) The blue/red and grey wires soldered onto the back plate
    3) The pins soldered onto the contact plate.

Have just done this mod, soldered the 6 pins in, added the two wires, got the new horn buttons
Took it to stealers this morning and the tech2 guy had to reset my cim to add the commands for the scrollers as they were "locked".
I now have 100% working scrollies WHOOOOOP, thank you Robsey.

No problems, glad to be of help.

This is a very simple programming job...
It is not a matter of resetting or locking the CIM, but just a matter of re-programming the "Variance Configuration Settings".

Takes longer to crank up the programmer, than the actual programming operation itself

Im not sure what was locked, but I watched the technician using the tech2, every time he told the CIM that the controllers were present it flashed up "parameter locked" or something very similar, but, he reset the CIM and tried again and it worked lol, just have to back now and get my spare key recoded.

Next up, decent suspension and shocks

    Then its a remap.

PS. yes, it takes ages to tech2 anything lol, we must have been dicking around for 30 mins lol and the ****** horn kept sounding everytime he finished setting a parameter.

    I used opcom.

3 minutes to crank up the lap-top

    1 minute to program

30 second wait to allow the modules etc to "settle"

    Job done

the tech who did it says he owns an astra gsi, he uses something called kwp or kwt and opcom to mess with his car.
Can opcom program steering controls too ?? I didnt know that lol, I have a friend who has/had one, not sure if it was the proper one or not, he just said he had one, that would have saved me a long time ago lol.

Yup Op-com will do this too.

I use Op-Com for both CAN and KWP vehicles.

By the way KWP is for half CAN vehicles and earlier, where some analogue signals are used in the diagnostics process.
    Astra-G before 2003, Omega-B, Zafira-A, Vectra-B and Corsa-C are all KWP vehicles

    Hello Robsey, thanks for sharing.

Could you please list the steps to get to the variance configuration settings for both modules with the Op-Com ?

I think I have an old software ; I heard that there's now a stable version for Win7 that may have more options (I'll still use it under XP, I'll check a friend's topic who gave the correct working version), so maybe I don' t have the relevant options working, or maybe I just can't find them...

And another thing : I know, because it happened to some people I read from on forums, that sometimes a connector to the CIM can have faulty contacts and needs repair and/or cleaning.

I can't access my CIM with my Op-Com, though all related stuff is working normally (stalks, wheel buttons, and so on).

Maybe you know where I have to look to find the connector that's known for that ?

Or maybe my CIM has a problem, but how can all be working, then ? Or maybe just the CAN communication... Anyway, the Op-Com reports errors for several modules (BCM, UEC, etc.) attempting to communicate with the CIM and not founding it.

Wow - "Holy thread resurrection Batman.!!"..
The cheap and cheerful opcoms that people discuss are all still pegged back to a February 2010 version of software.

Official Opcom / Vauxcoms are currently upto June 2012 software.
The official software will not work safely with the cheap and cheerful devices.

As this is not a topic for open discussion on this forum - PM sent.
