    Default Brake Light Question

As you know, on the brake light cluster, there are two brake lights, one above the other when the pedal is depressed.

The warning light came on earlier saying "Brake Light".

Checked the brake lights, as you do - (On the passenger side only the top light works, the bottom does not.

However, this is the problem - both bulbs work fine - when you take the top one out and press the pedal, the bottom bulb comes on just fine.

When you put the top bulb in, the bottom one goes off and the top one stays on.

    Any ideas folks??

You've only one brake light either side, and two tail lights.

The upper tail light is also the brakelight, and should that fail, the lower tail light takes over the role of tail light / brake light.

    Therein lies the answer..
The side where both upper and lower bulbs have iluminated, then it is the upper one that needs replacing....Driver's side I presume.

Because the upper one is on it's way out, check control has noted this, and so has illuminated the bottom one to compensate.

Check control will flash up even if the bulb hasn't fully failed yet...just on the way out.

    Clever !!
