    Default Dodgy Fuel Gauge

Have wee problem with our Vectra C fuel gauge..... It looks to be showing about a 1/4 of a tank less than we should have... ie: 3/4 when filled to the brim and I only get about 45ltrs into the tank when showing empty.

Does anyone have any ideas if this sounds like a dirty level sender or something and how can I get to it to check ?

Not sure if it's the case with Vec C's but older Vauxhalls had problems with the tank sender float going porous and not floating as well as a result. Sure someone will be able to confirm if thats a known issue with the C or not though.

    Usually a dodgey sender unit...
but you could check the connector for corrosion first, as rust etc, will increase resistance across the plug, which will make the current across the sender lower, thus giving lower than normal gauge readings.

I've had mine (07 sri 18vvt) in and out of vx for 18 months now due to the gauge sticking. It takes about 1/2 hr to register any fuel and it sticks at random places anywhere between 1/4 tank and empty. It's run outa fuel loads of times - so much that I keep a can of petrol in the boot all the time now. The trip meter also typically says 50-90 miles range left when it runs out. Sounds daft, but you tend to lose track of your miles when pottering about town, and I've come to expect fuel gauges to be pretty reliable over the years!

Vx have replaced the sender, instruments and 'flashed' the software loads of times with no success - can't beleive a main dealer can't sort the prob - I reckon I'm gonna get rid now tbh. Enough's enough. Shame cos I really like the car :-(
