    Default Dead heater fan

    Hi all.
    I had a strange occurrence today.

    I hope someone can help;

    I have a Signum 2.2 Direct which was looking a bit dirty so decided to take the easy option and go to the local roller car wash. It did a lovely job on the paintwork and wheels. I screwed the aerial back on the roof and drove away. About 2 minutes down the road, smoke began pouring out of the 2 middle air vents. The heating control fan now doesn't work. The display still goes from 1 to 7 on the dashboard but there is no air coming out of any of the vents.

    I'm assuming that that my heater fan has died.

    2 questions;

    1 - Has this happened to anyone else on the forum and can they advise me on how to fix it?

    2 - Can anyone tell me whether it's a complicated job to replace as I can't see how to get at the fan itself.

    Thanks in advance for your help

    Sounds like the old chestnut

    Drainage channels under the scuttle panel is blocked.
    Lift the flap at the rear of the engine bay, to where the pollen filter is located.
    This will be full of water from the car wash.
    This water overflows, over the top of the motor unit in the cabin area.

    You need to clear out all the drainage tubes of leaves and crud etc.

    You may now have cooked the motor and the resister pack.

    Look at threads on this forum regarding the heater pack failure (usually identified as loss of fan speeds 1 to 3). There are some fixes on here, if it is just your resister pack, but by the amount of "smoke", I would probably expect the motor to be killed now aswell.

    Fan and resister pack are up behind the glovebox.

    That's great, Thanks for the reply.
    I will trawl the previous threads and get onto it. Driving with the windows open to avoid the windscreen fogging up isn't ideal.

    Fan speed 1 to 7 is that not climate control ??? Same causes to fault but different (and much more expensive) part

    yes, it has climate control but the controls work fine. I just get no air coming out of the vents. I'm going to take it all apart today as I have a day off work. I think it's going to be the resistor pack as the motor came on intermittently yesterday.

    Does anyone know where I can get a new resistor pack without paying mortgage prices for it?

    Cheers

    CC doesn't have a resistor pack, more uses electronic fan speed control.

    I had same problem recently with blocked drain and water in footwell, then motor stopped working. It did not work on any speed.
    I Followed the advice found on this forum. I checked the continuity of the fuse on the resistor block and it was good. I took motor out and cleaned it up paying particular attention to the com and brush area. and the fan is working on all speeds.
    If the fuse has blown on your resistor block the motor may still run on the highest speed but it wont run intermittently on the others, it will either run or it wont. A motor full of gunk may run intermittently.
    I may be mistaken as your car has 7 speed it may have a different design around the resistor block.
    I Hope it is not too expensive for you though.
