I am very interested in doing this..........ANY MORE NEWS?
I don't know what happened to the O/P, he just never bothered to reply to this thread.
I am sure that my drawing wasn't a million miles out, but I assume that you would need to have a DAB unit for this to work.
It needs the DAB to be selected,
It will then open up the audio channels from DAB / Aux-In.
I would suggest switchng the audio + wires, rather than the audio ground wires.
The display will show whatever DAB station is selected, although it SHOULD be the Aux-In that you would hear through the speakers.
Sorry I have CD70, so have no method to test this.
Im about to have a cdc40 opera which i think has dab. If it does i will give this a bash and post an update. Please not will probably be 3rd week of August for an update though, busier than a bumble bee over the next 2 weeks for anything requiring time spent on it.
Let us know how you get on! I still haven't had time to look into this, seems simple enough though!
sorry about the previous post, was on my phone.
I've taken a quick look at my photos of the car I took when I was out hunting, it has the DAB aerial so that part looks good to start with.
My preference may be to switch all 3 lines, make a complete break in circuit for the audio that way. It may not make too much of a difference, but I prefer to keep things separate like that, makes for an easy life. there is no reason why in terms of audio lines into the unit cannot be wired to accept from a different source, so long as the unit expects audio on those lines.
I had my cdc40 out a little while ago and it has a pos and neg terminal on the back of the unit for an aux in connection, im now quessing that i cant just connect a aux lead to this, and also i noticed a sub pos and neg connection, anyone know where the vx sub fits? And its size/wattage? I have a 15" jl audio 400w bad boy kicking around, would love to use it lol (i know that the headunit wont have the power to run it)
With the aux in, my understanding from researching is the unit will hy default ignore audio coming in on those lines. Tech2 should be able to enable it but i've read mixed results on it so far.
With the DAB enabled, the line in where the DAB unit sends in audio should work. My intention is to simply purchase a 3.5mm socket, solder a few wires to it, pull the unit out, stick wires in and test. Will post the results from that.
From the sub question ive wondered this myself. It will be a sub line out the head unit provides to send to a driver before the sub.
I have a Vectra 1.9CDTi Design with a CDC40 DAB radio. I removed the radio and cut the 3 wires associated with the feed from the DAB box and connected them to my Samsung Galaxy ACE smart phone. I re-connected the radio and turn on to DAB and I could hear my smartphone music. With the volume up on the phone the volume on the radio was normal (low to very loud).
I will post some pictures of the installation tomorrow when after I've been to Maplins and got some more bits.P1040300 (Medium).JPG
Basically I will install a switch and a 3.5mm stereo connector in the glove box. More pictures to follow...
Good to see a simple, clear and concise answer. I think that makes cdc40 with dab present and a-ok solution.
