Default CDC40 opera ipod aux in can be done

    Hi

I'm not sure if anyones still interested but you can create an aux in for an ipod
via the DAB (yes i have done it and by using a switch you can still use the DAB).
The only thing i cant get is anything to display on the screen, but who cares,no more fm crackle and retuning.
If anyone wants info just let me know.

    cheers

    wkma

Yes this is well known to those who have TIS etc.

But this is ONLY for the CDC40...The internal wiring provides the option to have audio input from EITHER the DAB box, or an AUX input on the same pins in the quadlock connector.

Are you going to do a brief outline of how you did this, or even just provide pin-out information...
Especially for your switch pins etc.
I know that aux-in is a very popular topic, and CDC40 is becoming the music lovers VX radio of choice.

Personally I have an early CD70, so it is MP3 CD's for me!!

As promised, I pm'd Chris yesterday...

    here is his reply.

    Hi wkma,

As I expected, you have raised a lot of interest on the forum, and as per your offer there are members who would like details of how you carried out your adaptation to the CDC40.

Is this something you are going to post on the forum, or will you be sending info by PM only.?

    Please advise,
    thanks in advance,
    Rob.

    Here's the reply...

Hi I am more than happy to post and will do so asap I am at present unable to acess a pc and am using a phone , I will post a reply or message people as required as I know the frustration of no aux in!
I have only just signed up for this forum as have yet to use it much so will get to it soon

    Chris

Okay, I know it is a pm, but there is nothing untoward or personal / private...

    I'm sure Chris wont mind.

I assume his pc is still not working, so I thought of a simple way to do this.

The DAB audio signal is in the same format as any other audio signal, and so we can splice the right + aux-in to the right DAB audio in, and the left aux-in to the left DAB audio in.

Then if we use a switch to switch between the ground link of the DAB audio signal to radio and the ground wire of the aux-in to radio, then we can trick the head unit into thinking that the audio signal is coming from the DAB box, when it is really coming from the aux-in device.

It will show info for the DAB box, so no ipod or mp3 information, but you will get stereo audio.

Here is a simple wiring diagram for the circuit required.
I've not tested it, but the theory says it should work.
    Hope this helps...
