    Talking Possible starter motor fault?

I think my starter motor has packed up, went to start the car and it tryed but then gave up (sounded like when the battery goes flat). Tryed to jump start but it did not help, battery is putting out 12.3v and all the windows/auto tailgate etc are working so I presume the battery is ok. Alternator is only a few months old.

Does anybody know how much a starter motor is approx for a 2006 1.9 cdti 150 is or have any idea what else it could be?

Gave the starter motor a whack and tryed to start again, it made a noise as if it was going to turn over but gave up.

A battery in good condition should provide around 13.7 vdc off load so at 12.3 it is low in volage. When you operate the starter motor it is a dead earth which will drag the battery voltage down further if not in good condition. Borrow a good battery and try again.

Tryed to get a starter motor from motor factors and the wrong one has turned up twice, mine has 10 teeth and they both had 9

will see if I can lay my hands on good battery to try just in case it helps.

Second recon starter from the motor factor arrived and was wrong again went to the stealer and paid twice the price for a new one, it's fitted and works a treat. Worth paying the extra £150 so I can work all weekend and Monday shame I've had to give away £150 off work this afternoon but it's better than loosing the whole weekend
