Thumbs up Manifold advice for SRi 150 Vectra

    Hi all

I still got a vectra as above driving like a milk float in 1st gear... I think i found a mechanic to take the manifold off and clean for me soon.

After reading the stuff on this excellent forum i found this technical sheet on the likely problem with the design of the manifold:
    http://www.ms-motor-service.com/ximages/pg_si_0093_en_web.pdf

A friend of mine has suggested a solution rather than buying a new manifold if the rod and bearings are worn or broke... is to remove the bar alltogether and making sure the tumble flaps where the air comes in from the egr valve are stuck in the closed position, he suggests then the manifold is only getting clean air from the air filter with plenty of oxygen and should run well or better than current... but the motor will still be working and shouldnt detect the change.

wonder about emissions on MOT or any other issues? or if anyone else had tried this?

    Thanks for any advice?

    Chris

Some of the BMW guys had totally removed the swirl flaps in their 3.0D's and despite a slight drop in low down performance, ran well - could be an option if the ECU will allow it. Or blank off the exhaust side of the EGR after the manifold is cleaned out, as its the crud fed in through here that causes all the problems - all you'll be left with is the emmissions light on your dash, but will run spot on.

Although, I feel that the fitment of the new style manifold with a clean/new EGR with the Fiat restrictor gaskets is the best option (but most expensive) and will stay good for a long while.

    Hi Dan !

    Firstly thanks for your advice...
I had a new EGR about 6 months ago, i suppose i agree with you really the best option is to sort it out properly haha

I may buy the parts myself and get a mechanic to fit them, do i need the manifold and electric drive module (as per the pdf in my post) and the new gasket you mentioned?

I found the manifold & module for about £330 + vat does that seem about right?

    Cheers
    Chris

The price seems "right" for the manifold and module - so maybe you could shave some ££'s off that price by shopping about.

I would say that its best to replace the module too, as its supposed to learn the movements of the manifold - and for £130 (ish) quid its worth doing at the same time as its a big change to change later.

The Fiat restrictor gaskets are purely to keep the EGR/Manifold cleaner for longer and help the low end performance a little bit too.

Ah i just searched and found the fiat restrictor gaskets you mentioned.. so they just a blanking plate with smaller holes and restrict the amount of air that goes through

useful tip - thanks again !

    Yep, thats right.

It seems that if you ECU software is bang upto date, you may get an EML light, but the vast majority on the forum that have them are fine.

the semi blanking gasket for the EGR is available from fiat, there was a supplier of manifolds on ebay but im unsure if its still available due to the high demand (search ebay) around £170 delivered. i personally as others have done didnt bother with the actuator motor and most vx dealers dont either!, just the manifold, a manifold gasket and the EGR semi blanking gasket. pic+ number of semi blank here, its the square one you want. http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=106837
