    Default Meriva Electrical poser!

One for the tecnical guys here:-

The Meriva has a place in the boot for a 12V accessory socket. The circular hole (to the left hand side) is covered by a blanking plate. I believe the socket comes as an option when you order the car with travel assist.

So me been me i decided to pop off the trim and blanking cover and low and behold the wiring is taped up for the socket. I ordered the part from the dealer and tried to fit it today. Everything went fine, socket fitted straight in and the wiring plug went straight on to the rear of the socket. Problem now is it isn't working, i checked the handbook thinking it was a fuse but there is no mention of it under fuses.

Here is the two possible problems:-

The car will need tech2 to programme it to enable the socket. or

The accessory socket came with three prongs on it, the wiring plug taped up behind the trim only has two wires going to it. Will i need another wire maybe an earth or will that be buried somewhere.

Just thought some of the Vauxhall techie lads might be able to shed some light.

    Thanks in advance,

    Paul.

I have one in my estate and I found out that it only works with the ignition on, I take it you have tried it with the ignition on, just a thought..

Well I would still vote for fuse.
I doubt very much indeed that a tech2 is required, it's unlikely to be run by a module IMO, more likely straight off the rear fuse box. (assuming it has a rear fuse box)
I have no idea why the accessory socket had three pins on it !
Unless it is illuminated, which I doubt very much, as the accessory sockets are not usually illuminated that's only the full fag lighters.
I would expect to see one pin go to the outer casing of the socket, this is the earth.
And one pin to the centre contact of the socket, this is the live.
Have a look and see where the plugs wires/pins go to on the socket.
If you have a test light or multi meter, try it on the loom plug and see if it has a live there, don't worry, you wont cause any damage testing at this point.
Make sure the ignition is on, as the socket wont be permanently live.

Thanks for the replies lads. The socket in the boot of the Meriva is supposed to be a constant live even with igntion off. I have tested it with the ignition on and still dead. I have tested the muliplug with a test screwdriver and it's dead before connecting it to the accessory socket. The only fusebox on the Meriva is in the glovebox (except for the main ones under the bonnet). There is no mention of it under fuses unless it's covered my the front accessory socket. My thinking is that it could be switched off as the wires are just taped up, maybe it needs enabling via tech2 once the socket is fitted. May have to ask the tech when he codes my car for a flip key next week.

I too will be highly surprised if it does need switching on but having said that, that's the way it's going now with Vauxhall.

One other dissapointment is that the actual accessory socket only cost £1.25, wouldn't you think they would be standard across the range at that price!!!

    Cheers guys,

    Paul.

Yep. I can't believe they don't fit them as standard in the boot of the Signum! I keep meaning to put one in as it'd be a piece of pi*s as there is a rear fusebox just behind the panelling!

One thing to add to the list once I get my car back from being repaired!

No problem m8, you seem to have covered most things I think you can.
Short of finding another Meriva with one fitted and see if it has any extra fuses in it.
I do agree, I cant see it being a tech2 job.
The sockets are a bargain aren't they !!! My one was broken when I got the motor (the little flapy bit) I now have one on each side of the boot.

Tell me about it. I've seen it in loads of Vx estates - it makes sense - and thought it'd be in the Signum, but nope! Easy enough to install given where the fusebox is - but not the point! lol

Well i'm at a loss with mine now, i have popped the rear seat one and it only has two wires. Surely it can't be tech2 job can it?
