    Default Remap VS Tuning Box

    Hi everyone,

Want to know a quick question, does a tuning box produce more bhp than a remap? Like the dtuk CRD2 tuning box say it can produce up to 206bhp, and the bsr remap can produce up to 180bhp, meaning the tuning box can output more power. Is this true?

    Thanks

187.6bhp from my BSR, I wouldn't even think about putting a box on any of my cars..

You won't get a true 200 BHP from either.

These figures are obtained from rolling road tests, box's will always produce more on the rolling road as they tend to ignore management safety parameters.

Get a re-map it's better on the long run.

What management safety parameters are those?

    I'm intrigued

Boxes fool the fuel injection system by sending false data to the engine ECU which in return sends "new" data to the injectors that just dump fuel into the cylinders.

isn't the mpg reported a bit on the high side when a tuning box is plugged in, by a good 8-9 mpg don't think they are accurate with a box installed.

Paraphrasing what BSR say about remaps:-

If you want to tune your diesel car and still keep the car’s safety and durability functions for the engine/transmission/ESP etc intact, the only way to tune a diesel car is to make changes in the existing control system of the engine, and retain total control over all parameters at any moment, without disturbing the safety functions of the car by deceiving the system.

Apart from an obvious power and torque increase you get the following advantages with a remap:-

    - torque comes soft and smooth
    - torque is adjusted/limited on lower gears (to avoid damage on the transmission)
    - boost pressure and air flow is optimized
    - on board computer shows correct fuel consumption
    - anti skid program (ESP) function is fully retained
    - torque reduction when shifting gear (for comfort and durability) is retained
    - regeneration (emptying) of particle filter is retained optimal
    - correct calculation of exhaust temperature
    - correct calculation of service interval
    - diagnostic system is retained
    - no enlarged NOx emissions compared with original when driving in regulated emission tests

Tuning boxes crudely increase fuelling without synchronizing those parameters that the ECU would with a remap.
