The glow plug light will not come on in the morning on the dti now the temps are above 5*c

You can unplug the coolant sensor which will force the glow plugs on & help the starting

sorry posted that in a bit of a rush.
it does start but it takes a bit of starting,it puts out a large cloud of bluey/white smoke but i think its just diesel,it doesnt smoke at all after,i am parked on a flat surface, the glow plug light always came on for a couple of seconds when i turned the ignition on but not at all now,it is more difficult to start when cold, when it is warm it starts fine.it was 1 oC the other morning when trying to start it and it took ages to start.
Which one is the eml light ?

Sounds a bit like mine mind you its not as bad now ive changed leak off pipes.
So you don't get the Glowplug light any more ? might be the temp sensor on top of thermostat if your not getting it on startup below 5 oC

Normally if i let glowplug light go out then turn off and wait again for light to go out mine starts with no smoke but if its left over night and its not cold enough for light car will start but i get a puff of grey/black smoke that smells of diesel.

This is the EML light its far bottom right on cluster or you might get a car with a spanner for a brief second in the rev window

    hello,
i have had a little look see today, the glow plugs are ok,when i removed the sensor on the thermostat the glow plug light came on and all worked ok,so any ideas now? i know it sounds silly but is it something silly like a fuse or something? or is it the coolant sensor?when i unplug the coolant sensor the little car with a spanner on it comes on and stays on.
any ideas would be great :
P.s, the insp light was reset at local garage, not come back on since, oil and filter service done this afty.

The spanner light is comming on because you have unplugged the sensor, imo the glow plugs will not now come on as the weather is warming up (they only work under 5*c)
If the leak off pipes are ok then my guess is a slight drop in compression is causing the longer starting time.
    whats the mileage?
did the car fire straight away with the coolant sensor unplugged?
does the car fire ok once warm?
