    Unhappy Weird consumption problem (1.9cdti)

    Hello,
I'm new here. I have a Vectra C from 2005 with Astra H interior (last edition before facelift) with 1.9 cdti engine with 120 bhp.

Commonly, when engine is at normal operating temperature, the idle consumption stays around 0.7-0.8 l/h without AC, when i start AC it goes to 0.9-1.1 l/h

Suddenly, without reason, sometimes the idle goes to 2.3 - 4.0 l/h (!!!) (without AC) or even 4.3 l/h and the radiator blower stays on but the temp gauge is at 86C, so no reason to start, outsite temperature being 11C. (so says the hidden menu). this consumption doesn't go lower if i don't stop the engine and start it again, then it comes back to normal. I have changed the thermostat along with the sensor on it (had a problem engine running cool due to thermostat failure), i have no errors in the dashboard.

Somebodye had this problem before me ?

It's the diesel particle filter regenerating. The engine uses more fuel to heat the particle filter and vaporize the dirt in it. It's perfectly normal and you should not stop the engine when this happens. During this you should drive the car at around 3000 rpm. The process usually lasts for 10 minutes. My car does this every 800 Km or so.

It's normal. As said don't stop it mid cycle as it will block up and leave you with a massive bill for repairs.

A good squirt down a decent Mway should be good for it

i understand, but AFAIK, the manual says that the dashboard heated plug light must flash when the DPF does it's thing. Mine did this only once until now like the manual figured, no flashing ignition plug light when the consumption is at 4 l/h . Are there more methods that the DPF is cleansed ?

The coil only lights up when the DPF is really clogged. Normally it doesn't flash.
Opel/ Vauxhall changed it this way because a lot of people were coming in service when the regeneration process (coil appeared) was in progres.

    Hello

Sorted out yesterday this problem. I got home from work and in the parking lot i saw 4.7 l/h
I waited for 15 minutes or so with engine running at idle, BC started to show lowering values from 4.9 to 0.5-0.6 gradually and now it stays there. Anyway, i took the advice and got a blast of speed on the motorway last night, i think the problems are gone (let's hope) Might had this problem due to the fact that i don't drive long distances as my job is near my home so the DPF never really had the time to clean itself properly

If the coil doesn't flash it's ok.
