Default 2.2i direct is this normal

Hi all picked my new signum 2.2i direct up last week and i dont know whether this is normal so i thought i would ask you lot on here

when accelerating from first gear quite hard when i go to change to second gear the revs dont seem to drop when i back of the accelerator pedal and put the clutch in is this normal? sounds like im a learner driver when i change gear from traffic lights lol
I have done the airbox mod and ordered a k&n panel filter but im hoping this is something i can do something about as my old 1800 MG ZS 120 felt alot quicker than this to say it is a 2.2i
could it be the traction control ? or is it normal for this fly by wire pedal thing

its doing my head in if im honest and a little bit gutted that it dosnt feel as pokey as my MG

    thanks in advance

Its supposed to be like that mate. The Vec is a mile muncher, its meant for the motorways, you'll find it doesn't have any zap low down but will pull nicely mid to top. Its a long stroke 2.0 so its very lazy down low.

so looking at some of the previous posts
if i were to fit the 2.4 inlet maniold kit http://http://www.courtenaysport.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=473
this would be a straight swap and i would see some sort of difference

    bit gutted now lol

Mines wa like that when i got it from the garage... Thought it might be cause it sat for a while & everything was bit stiff..

In the end, i just sprayed all moving & rusty parts in the engine bay & cleaned out my throttle body.. Car seems bit better now...

Wont fit your car mate, as it only fits the none direct like mine. New zoest manifold and cat back might help, is the MG 1.4 single cam or 16V? I always found my single cam engines felt quicker as the power band was less smooth, where my 16V's have has a smoother power band so there quicker but you don't feel it as the power comes in better. Also as said its a stroker so its never going to have a good low end snap no matter what you do to it, its not designed that way. Map is and you'll see and extra 10bhp so that should give you 165, but really dont go throwing money at it, save it for the fuel pump

    Thanks for the replys
The MG was 1800 injection twin cam 16 valve

had a bit of a clean of the throttle body and like one of the privious posters said it has made a difference with regard to the revs hanging at gear change time

New K&N panel filter to put in it tommorow then we will see i was just expecting a little better performance than a 1.8 K-series engine
im looking into having a stainless steel exhaust system made as a guy makes them local to me with life time guarantee and had one made before and it sounded quite nice
do you have a link for the zoest manifold you mentioned

Aren't they about 160 stock? Thats more than the 2.2 straight out of the box.
