    Default DVLA B@stards...

Just rang up to to transfer my cherished number onto my new car and they told me my certificate has 'expired'.

Turns out you have to pay £100 per year to keep it on a certificate otherwise you lose all rights to the plate?

I can appeal but seeing as I payed £750 for the plate 5 years ago and I am likely to lose that I am hugely annoyed

    Complete and utter robbin' g1ts.

It isn't stated on my certificate I have here, I didn't get a reminder. I wasn't informed of this. More money for the goverment

Tried that. All plates belong to Gordon Brown the Chancellor. We buy the rights to use that numberplate.

Yes they can resell the 'rights' to the plate now.

Gonna write to Honest John and ask his opinion.

Thing is I said well i'll buy it back then cos it is quite individual to me and means quite a lot. They said they can't do that yet. So I said I would pay the 'retention' fees for the year I have missed and put it on a car. They can't do that either.

    What ever suits them..... Fluckers.....

My mom has had a cherished number for years and changes her car every 2 years, she transfers the number and I know that she pays no subscriptions, I also know the number is wanted by other people. What youi have been told must be either new or 8ollox

If it is on a car it can be on a car for as long as you want as long as the car is there. If it is on retention you need to pay a fee per year for the 'priveledge'.

Is your reg no on the car or on retention ?...
When you keep a cherised number on retention (not on the car) I think you have to pay £25 a year for the priviledge...I was reading the dvla site yesterday to see whats involved in retention...£105 to retain and get a new reg no for the car you are taking the cherished no off, £80 if you transfer from car to car, and £80 to assign your retained to a new car... It also says that reminders that your retention period is nearly over may be sent out....

In my eyes these charges are disgusting and yes its the motorist bearing the brunt again...the robbing barstewards

I hope you get sorted mate...Bob

I think that system sucks, I bought my first private plate this year and would be well p1ssed if I lost it because of some stupid rule

If you buy it, it should be yours for life, no arguement

I was told you have to pay £100 to retain the plate, just a rip off

Thats what I thought, as I know a lot of ppl who have their own no plates and they never cracked a light about paying a so called £100....
