    Default Leather repair....

Came back from dealer after having four brand new tyres fitted for free and found the fitter had left a nice little memory of his time in my car for me :

I know Halfords do leather repair kits, but i've never had to look into before so not sure whether this damage is beyond local repair even for a Chipsaway type company.

Anyone had any experience with leather repair work?

well there's two things that are stopping me from doing this:

    1) the damage happened whilst the car was in having the tyres changed when there is some doubt as to whether the tyres were part of the faulty batch in the first place, so i got four brand new tyres for free.

    2) if the mechanic denies it then it's his word against mine - and it's likely nothing will happen.

On the other hand, my car is due a service next month, as the service manager was keen to point out, and i told him that i'd see him next month for that service, now i'm questioning whether to go back there at all if this is the type of care they give the cars they are working on.

Might pop back to the garage now in fact just to see what he says.

Dont let the fact that you had the tyres changed put you off if THEY have damaged it then they must fix it

Also if you might not go back there again then you have nothing to lose if you upset them !!!!!

    Back in a V6 !!!!!!!!!!!! And lovin it !!!

As Drinky said, it doesn't matter the fact that you got new tyres when you weren't sure if they were affected.

That's irrelevant. The fact that the dealer has changed them shows that they (or Vx) have enough concern/doubt about your tyres to change them. The dealer hasn't done you any sort of favour given the fact that Vx will be footing the bill for the new tyres - so you shouldn't feel indebted to them.

He probably will deny it, but if you don't make the challenge in the first place then you've got diddly squat chance of having anything done. You may be surprised, they may do something about it.

It actually looks like some leather cream (or somethng similar) and careful smoothing down may get rid of that. But as Drinky said, go and challenge them and say that it definitely wasn't there when it went into them. I'm trying to think what the mechanic may have done to have caused that. My first thought was a ring, but I thought they had to take them off when they were working?

I was having my front spolier painted and fitted and they scratched my bonnet, I only noticed after I took it home, I went back and politely pointed it out, they didn`t admit it was them but said it could have been and fixed it free . I think being polite about it and keeping a cool head helped, I was fizzing when I saw it. Give them a shout you might be surprised at the outcome ?

spoke to the service manager and he spoke to the team who fitted the tyres and apparently none of them are married or engaged so its not ring damage and the bottom line is that he's not going to do anything about it.

when he calls me next month to book my car in for a service he'll get a few choice words unless he knocks off a considerable amount of money.

M8, that kind of damage is more often than not caused by something on your belt, the belt buckle or a set of keys being the favourites, rather than a ring on yer finger.

When I had my freelander it was damaged every time it went into the dealers, I went and saw the salesman and general manager.....it was sorted out very quickly after veiled threats of writing to land rover etc...If the damage was caused when your car was at the garage they have to repair it...thats trading standards law...the hard part is proving it...personnally I think the service managers explaination is lame and b0ll0x...go and see the salesman or the general manager...
