Default Intake air Sys Leak 1.9 CDTI

    Hello,

The car had the inlet manifold issue. After the repair the car is definitely smoother but a new problem has appeared.
Below 2000 is dead, and it keeps throwing up P229 Intake air Sys Leak. I have cleaned the EGR, things have improved but still not good.

My question is, are there any vacuum pipes i could have missed at the back of the engine when I replaced the manifold?

Have you checked all of the boost pipes and the intercooler?

The intercooler is ok, the air pipes seem to be ok.
The strange thing is it did not behave this way before the repair.
I could feel it straight away. I had a whinning noise all the time and I believe it's normal.

Another thing, if i let in engine brake from 3000 rpm it gets the code. Sometimes it goes away and sometimes needs a reboot

Try getting some spray smoke (maplin) and with engine running fill the air intake after the maff. This should show up any air leaks if you look closely at the usual culprits ( intercooler at the bottom, swirl pots etc). This is a cheepy version of the professional smoke generator kit used for leak tests by garages.

Sounds like you should be looking at the top of the swirls are they leaking oily gunk ?

I have just changed the inlet manifold

I will try and block the EGR tommorow + disconect it. If the car drives better he's the guilty one, if not, it's something I've missed when I replaced the inlet.

Good ideea with the coloured smoke

I've never cleaned the throttle body which in fact controls the egr flow by slightly blocking the pressurised air from the intercooler.

    Could this be it?

why didn't you clean the throttle body!! when you had to take it off anyway?, go over EVERY PIPE that you've disturbed and double check EVERYTHING!. did you put the elec connector back on underneath the throttle body?. and check the pipes running from the vacuum box to the front of the engine (you would have took this off when you done the manifold).

Double checked everything, cleaned the throttle body. Same thing.
Took the EGR plug off and pulls quite perfect
So, an EDS remap with egr disabled is on its way
