Thumbs up Got my repairs approved today!

Well, the insurance assesor came to the dealer today to look over the car. I'd asked the garage to give me a ring when he was on his way, so I was able to be there at the same time and have a chat. It was actually the same assesor that had looked at the rear end damage previously.

Basically, it's all pretty straight forward. I wanted to see what he said about replacing the damper and spring on the non-damaged side so that they were replaced as a pair. The garage had estimated to replace both sides. He said he'd need to get approval. Sometimes they'll approve it, sometimes they'll want a contribution - either they pay for parts and you for labour, or vice versa. So I should know later today what the deal is.

The garage hadn't automatically put down for a new driveshaft to be replaced, just to check it once it was all off, refit it if didn't look damaged and see what it was like once refitted. I asked the assesor about that, and he said he had no problem just to authorise it to be replaced from the start as it had ben given a fair knocking about - which was my initial comment to the garage. It would cost them more, due to the extra labour,to have to take it all apart and replace it than just do it at the start.

So just waiting for the final approval for the repairs and see what the deal is with the suspension on the non-damaged side.

lo - I didn't actually see the assesor last time as I didn't really have anything to ask him - but he obviously recognised the car.

Don't know about the porker - he probably wasn't assessing it as they are different insurers. I did get a letter from my insurers the other day to confirm that they will be settling his claim (obviously) and that it would (obviously) be logged as a fault claim on my record. They said if I wanted to be kept informed about the progress/final costs of the other party's repairs to let them know - so I did. I won't find out for a month or two from when they settle up though.

Just had some excellent news. The assesor just rang to say that Direct Line have approved replacing the Irmscher damper and spring on the non-damaged side (so that they're replaced as a pair) with no contribution required from me!!

They need to order the parts, so they reckoned work would start next week and take a couple of weeks. So I'd be looking at week beginning 24th July to get it back.

Hoped I might have had it for the weekend just before as I was probably going to be driving up to the NE for my brother's 40th. Don't really want to stick another 650+ miles onto Cara's car!

Hire car? - No m8, Cara (Mrs GSi) has loaned me her Vec C. You saw my other thread - I know you did 'cos you replied in it!

I could've had a hire car but only a cra*py Matiz and only for 14 days.
