    Default Steering wheel shaking around 70-80mph

    I have a problem with my steering wheel shaking when I go between 70 and 80mph.

    I have had four new tyres on the car, and have had the wheels balanced twice, by two different garages (both of them confirmed that there were no problems with the rims). Have also had the alignment checked, and a visual inspection of the suspension and brakes shows no problem.

    Any ideas?

    You appear to have covered all the obvious items

    In order of likelihood, I would have suggested: -
    1) Wheel Balancing or buckled wheel
    2) Eggy tyres or under inflated tyres or badly fitted tyres.
    3) Track control arm / tie-rod arm worn or loose
    4) Balance weight missing from drive shaft (if fitted)
    5) General damage to suspension.

    Sorry, I have only confirmed that the garages have checked the obvious!!

    As a side thought, I had something similar to this on a Mk 2 Cavalier, as it used to shake between 75 and 90 mph...it was just like a "resonance" point...either side of this, and ther was no vibration whatsoever.

    mate i have the same even put mine on a hunter last week put new alloys on and new suspension ???still the same

    had the same thing just last year on a loan focus est, had the wheels balanced, tracked the lot, you name it we tried it.. even balance the wheels on the car, changing disks. In the end a local garage found i had a small amount of play in the drive shaft on the near side, the firm refused to repair the shaft on cost and replaced the car, got another doing the same thing. but the nearside CV joint is making a loud clunk, wondering if this could cause it..?
    maybe worth checking the shafts or suspension...
