OK, here's another one of my 'How 2's'. This time for the fitting of the Insignia VXR to a normal Insignia.
This is a suprisingly easy job and took less than an hour to do.
Firstly, the front bumper has to be removed. Time - 5 minutes
Then remove the complete grill assembly from the back of the bumper. Time - 5 Minutes.
Here's both the standard and VXR grill side by side.
As mine is not a VXR, I decided to remove the mat alloy finish grill surround from the VXR grill and re-fit my standard chrome version.
This is simply clipped into place and needs to be gently removed. Time - 10-15 minutes as it is quite fiddly.
Here's the mat finish surround removed.
Here is the VXR grill, complete with the standard chrome grill sourround fitted.
There is a small modification that needs to be done to the VXR grill frame before you can fit it. If you don't do this, the assembly won't fit flush in the bumper and you will see a gap around the top of the grill.
So you can see in the picture the raised section that needs to be removed.
There is one either side to remove.
Here is how it looks with the raised section removed and the edges finished.
You will also see below the cut out down the 'hole' a clip, this needs to be removed and transfered to the new grill (If you have Park Assist as it mounts the loom)
Once this has been done, it can be simply clipped into the bumper, this is the exact reverse of strip down.
Then the bumper can be mounted on the car.
I am really pleased with the end result and by keeping the crome surround, it makes the grill more in keeping with the normal Insignia. It also matches up with the chrome badge that is standard.
