    Default Help glow plugs

Hi does anyine know how often glow plugs need changing on a 1.9 120 bhp cdti as my car is struggling to start after leaving it overnight. I have no lights come up on the dash telling me there is a problem but it is slowly getting worse and worse. Thanks in advance

Do you get the glow plug dash light up when you first try and start it? If not it could be the glow plug relay. These have been known to play up and did so on mine (150)

I changed my glow plugs because of spluttering start, but they made no difference. I am now going to look at the Leak Off pipes which can cause poor starting. Another reason and the most expensive is the injector seals(from an earlier thread) The glow plugs, if you decide to do them are a fairly straightforward job if you are confident and have the right tools. IE I invested in extra long nose pliers to remove electrodes, 1/4 drive deep socket (10mm) and a 9" extension bar. I did remove egr and a fitting above the alternator to give me more room to work but you might get away with not removing them. If you take this on, take your time and use some wd40 to get them out, mine came out fairly easily. Dont over tighten when you refit the new ones. Hope this helps.

Its not normaly or a known problem (leak off pipes) with the cdti, it is with the di/dti, So are injector seals! Its NOT a common thing with the cdti. spluttering or chugging is nearly always the swirl bar fell off or a glow plug problem.
