The vec has an amplifier in the aerial base so it's not a straight forward replacement job. Saw a post on one of the astra sites a while back which had modded an Insignia shark fin.

Just get a dummy one. Remove the aerial base from your vectra. You will need to peel back the roof lining a bit to access the nut which secures it. Then disconnect the blue plug which should be above your drivers side, rear window. This will allow you to totally free your aerial base. Once freed, reconnect it but this time with the aerial base on the underside of your roof (between roof and roof lining) the long arial can stay connected. Just tape it to the underside of the roof as the roof lining leaves a bit of a cavity between itself and the roof. Be sure to seal your fin properly as water will leak in and through your hole, making any passengers in the rear centre seat, a little bit erm... wet

my plan was use the wires from the current aerial..

An get the stuff from something like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BLACK-SHARK-FI...item2ea965751c (just the electrics)

And put it on this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GENUINE-VAUXHA...item2eac27513e

The insignia one is ONLY for Satnav.. radio it either in rear windscreen or on the roof via a normal antenna.. NOT a sharkfin..

That looks like a plan Ken.

Yep shark fin on the insignia is for satnav only.
Seen a few posts on other places where Insignia owners have had the rear windscreen replaced because the heated elements at the top don't work.........Do the dealers not know it's for the aerial ???? .....I do wonder sometimes.

Ken has an estate so that's not a problem. Some serious mod required to do this on a hatch.

there was one the other day.. that used one of this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LARGE-SHARK-FI...item414e4f1bf9

and then drilled it up from behind to put in the washer to.. (cant find the thread).

but if you have satnav, you have to find the "bigger" arials to have room for the satnav things..
