Default Buying a GSI with no cambelt change?

I've found a GSi fairly close to me with decent mileage and full history, however having spoken to the lad selling it, have discovered that the cambelt has not been changed yet. It is 2000 miles from the Vauxhall recommended change point. Am I taking a risk buying this car with it being so close to its change interval, and how much would I be looking at to have this work done, both dealer and independent prices?

Whats the mileage??? Book says 80,000 i believe but its recommended to change it by 40,000. If its a good example tell him to drop the price by £500 quid and get the belt kit done ASAP after buying it.

Sounds fair to me. But don,t forget to change the water pump and all the rollers whilst you have the cambelt off too.

No risk involved, it's probably one of the reasons he's moving it on. It does need to be done though.

It's up for 3400, full history, MOT til October. Looks in good condition from pics, but haven't seen it in person yet. I offered 3000 in principle before I found out about the belt, and he accepted.

    This is it

How much am I looking at for the belt change and all associated parts?

Also - 6 previous keepers. A sign of the cost of running it perhaps? Or something more sinister?

    A 2003 with 6 previous owners
Quite common once a car is out of warranty
What you might want to do is apply to the DVLA for the full listing
You may find the car had two owners in the first four years, and then one every year thereafter

£3000 is a fair price as it looks externally in good condition, compared to some 53 reg examples I have seen!
However, external condition is nothing compared to a FULL service history

As above, if it had been looked after then it would have had a cambelt change early as well as short service intervals
However performing the cambelt change yourself provides some good peace of mind; "it really has been done"
If all the receipts are included, look to see what actual parts were replaced at each service

If it's going to be as costly as that then it puts this car out of my price range unfortunately. Might be worth going to take a look at it and checking the paperwork to see if he's missed it, but I won't be holding my breath.

A genuine belt kit is only about 130 quid so they are not that pricey...
