    Default Please recommend a screenwash...

that DOESN'T smell like rotten eggs or cat pee!

The recent couple of batches I've used (Tesco I think, I'm tight!) stink when I wash the screen.

I'd really appreciate being able to clean my window and breathe at the same time!

Never had any problems using carplan screenwash. Still got a couple of 5 litre tubs left over from when Woolworths were selling it off cheap just prior to closing.

I have also not had any problems using bog standard 'blue' screenwash available in 5ltr containers.

You may have to remove and flush the washer bottle, as slime can build up in the bottom of the bottle which will make a new batch of screenwash smell bad very quickly.

Halfords sell some scented screenwash, but it is quite a bit more expensive than the standard stuff.

I used to make up several containers from concentrated - now I use the ready made stuff from Wilkinsons. It's cheap, smells reasonable, and cleans the screen without smearing.

The Vectra needs a much bigger washer bottle though!

It really depends on what you want your screenwash to do

The first thing is to make sure the water bottle isn't contaminated
Empty and drain using a clear pipe, watching for debris
Fill to about half with fresh clean water, and repeat
If possible, refill with heavily salted water and leave overnight, and repeat (empty, refill with fresh water, and repeat)

When adding screenwash there are different types
    1
Basic ones offer little or no anti-freezing protection, however these are fine for general driving in the summer when raining
For this I use ASDA basic at 70p per litre
    2
Concentrated ones simply have a higher concentration of chemicals to water (the basic ones are at least 95% water)
Avoid any with advice to take care with paintwork and rubber, these contain methylated spirits (you may as well just buy that then!)
    3
    Glycol / iso-propanol based
During cold weather conditions these are the ones you want
Holts is the best, works down to -20'C
On the label it will clearly state contains contains either glycol or iso-propanol
I use these between October and April
A 5 litre bottle is about £4 from ASDA

You can also add a washing agent as you fill
When refilling your screenwash, always add at least 100ml of fresh water first
In extreme cold weather I carry a 1 litre bottle of water in the boot of my car, just in case
Nextly add the washing agent, I use TESCO washing up liquid, about 20ml
Next is the screenwash, at least 1 litre
In summer I then fill to the top with more water, giving roughly 50:50, in winter I continue to fill with screenwash

Another tip is to use ScreenX
This costs about £5 per 250ml bottle, applied once every month

As was already said, your washer bottle sounds like it may need a wash out

Oh and stop being tight, buy some halfords screen wash, or even better get some from VX
