Angry 2 weeks old and there goes the alternator!!!!

Bought the vectra only two weeks ago and I was dropping the missus off when the battery light kept coming on. After dropping the missus off at the cinema, engine felt like it was vibrating more than usual, power wasn't really there when I put my foot down and then the next time I look at the dash, ABS light is on. So I whack on the hazards, thinking to myself 'Here it ****** goes'. I stop the car, open the bonnet and the engine is louder than usual, get back in the drivers seat and my dash looked like it was having a ****** disco. Most of the lights were on and my heart sank! When the mechanic turned up, he said it was the alternator which is good for me because it is covered under the RAC warranty that I got with the car! Still pi**ed off though. I didn't get any warranty from the dealer when I bought the car, but seeing as I only bought it two weeks ago and it failed due to EXCESSIVE wear and tear, have I got any rights to ask the dealer to pay for a new one?

It's a part that just always fails (well, very often) on these cars for some reason. Very poor part. Mine failed too, but was repairable for a fraction of the cost of buying a new one.
It's usually a small component called the rectifier that goes on them.
In your case, definitely shouldn't have to pay a penny for repairs.
At least it'll be fixed now and car should be fine from now on.

I'm glad to say, got the car fixed under warranty last Thursday. Brand new alternator - £260 fitting inclusive. Thank you RAC . The only other problem I had but didn't notice it until Sunday was the battery. It had used the whole charge so had to fork out for a new battery today. £70 with forces discount and 2 years warranty - not bad me thinks!

Wow - £260, I was quoted more than that for a recon one at Xmas. Quoted £470 for a new one and £300 for a recon one.

Recons were on back order so they discounted a new one to £350 for me. You got a deal mate.
