    Default Replacement Keys OUCH !!!!

My Veccy only came with 1 fob key from a main Vuax dealer, they didn't want to supply a second key as part of the sale price so I ended up forking out £105 for a new flip style fob key.

I was unable to get a replacement from an auto locksmiths as the car was not supplied with the card with the codes on. The companies I rang all said they needed to codes to programme the key.

I was told by the Vaux dealer that this was a special price seeing as I'd bought the car from them.

I only paid £5 for my old Ford Cortina keys back in the day. How things have changed !!!

Did you then remember to get the carpass from the dealer?

Thats an ok price, cost price for key is just below £50 + coding it £30 (which they could have done for free as it takes 5 mins) + ordering a security pass which is around £25.

Well it's a better price than I've got from Dews in Brighouse. £139, but that includes the car pass.
Called in after work on Wednesday 17th to enquire. I ordered it, told me all the necessary bits (pass, key) should be in by monday. Said he'd give me a call when they were in, and that I could bob in and they'd sort it for me there and then. Had to leave a £50 deposit. Friday 19th gets a call to say they have the parts. "I'll call in on my lunch for it then". Oh no, they need the car for 30 mins and I'd have to book an appointment. Wasnt what they told me in the first place. Anyway, its being done on Saturday, which isnt a problem, just not what I was told when I ordered it

some of the modern cars with multi function buttons (i.e peugeot 807 /1007 with remote sliding door buttons for both sides of the cars) retail at in excess of £250 for the key alone - but its the security side of the key that costs the money - hence why now people are having keys fished through letterboxes or home burglaries to get the car and nothing else ..... as you say how things have changed - but at least you cant start the car with a screwdriver like you could with the cortina
