    Default 3.0CDTI 60,000 mile service.

    Hi all,

My 55 plate Signum is just comming up 60k miles and I'm thinking about getting it serviced. What exactly will need changing.
Also is it a cam belt or chain ?? and would you reccomend getting that changed too. Vx say it approx 100k, but I dont like that high milage cambelt !!!

The cambelt is 100K miles / 10 years
It's not a VX engine and will easily last to 100K miles
I had mine replaced at 90K miles and virtually no signs of wear
The cambelt is very easy to inspect, simply look down the side of the engine!
There is a small cover at the top, remove that if you want a good look (but for a visual inspection only need to remove it)

As for the servicing, we need to know a little about the history
Up to 2005, the 3.0 V6 CDTI is on 30K miles / 2 year intervals
Which 60K miles service is it?
If the car is on ECO Flex, then this may be the second service
However, my car was on it's third service by then! (as the ECO Flex only gets as far as about 20K miles before wanting a service)

Given your car is a late 2005, it may be your car has been serviced at early 2007 (20K miles) and late 2008 (40K miles)
If that is the case, then this is the third service; 90K miles / 6 years

If it is the second service, then this is oil, oil filter, pollen filter, and possibly brake fluid change
If it is the third service, then this is as above, plus air filter and fuel filter

Personally, since the car is out of warranty :
oil, oil filter, pollen filter, air filter, fuel filter, and brake fluid change
The fuel filter is ESSENTIAL, the service plan only changes it every third service which is useless for the fuel pump

So this is the cars fourth service, by plan that is just oil, oil filter, and pollen filter

Find out what parts are replaced on that service cost, as that is actually quite good if that includes air filter, fuel filter, and brake fluid

All my previous services were £150 plus VAT (no matter what parts were replaced)

I brought that up at my last service
The gravity doesn't even get checked, coolant renewal is just not on the service specification at all!
I check the gravity every three months myself
Personally, I would go for a coolant renewal at ten years, in the same way as a brake fluid change based on time not mileage

Even on my previous Vectra B the coolant was never replaced on services
The water pump was replaced on a cambelt change at 80K miles, so the coolant had to be changed anyway

Taking a look at the radiator I suspect this is going to fail within the next two years, so that will be 7 years

The only car I have ever had that specified a coolant renewal was the Rover, but same as above, the radiator failed before meeting this service interval

Tim, if your in Norfolk, why not get Courtenay to service it. I know for sure they will do a much better job than the dealers in Norwich and the rest of Norfolk. Hartwells i Norwich are a joke.
