    Default Air Con...Again

Hi all...I used Kwik fit the other day to regas my air con. To be honest its never worked in the 2 1/2 years I've owned the car BUT the £25 offer seduced me...

Now to my query..when turned on you can tell its working but how much colder than 'normal' should it be??

Is air con not independant to external/ambient temperature?

Should air con get colder as its used?

End of the day Kwik fit hadnt gotta thermometer to test the temperature BUT did offer to check this week, when a new thermometer has arrived..

They also offered a money back guarentee, after theyd drained the coolant.

    Whats the verdict??

I had a problem with mine ages ago, it was not getting cold, it turned out to be a sticking flap/gate that swigs from side to side to let either hot or cold air through, I accessed it by taking out the glove box and centre passenger side panel out, taking the solenoid out and replacing and it worked, it has red cogs on it, if that is any help, these are known for sticking. I got a free regas through it cos Kwikfit said they cannot charge if its not getting cold.

Remember that aircon not only cools the incoming air, but also reduces the moisture level too.
Make sure when you're 'checking' theoutput temperature that the amibient temperature is nicely above +5c too as most aircon systems won't work below that, to prevent damage.
Just as a 'hand test' I'd be happy enough if set to full cold, aircon on and mid speed blower the air at the vents was 'uncomfortably cold' on the back of my hand within 15-20 secs.

If its not worked or been used for over 2 years then your gonna have more problems than simply a regas. It will be leaking somewhere, if its not used regularly the seals dry out and leak.

Hi Spenny, I didnt notice if all the vents where blowin hot, also I didnt actually replace the solenoid I just took it out and put it back in again and hey presto it worked, i think it was just sticking, if yours is broke, I would not think that they would be any more than about £20.
