    Exclamation Mot fail - 2003 sri

    Hi - My 2003 SRI, 55,000 miles just failed its MOT at a Kwik Fit garage, can anyone shed some light on the issues and costs they have quoted. Prices inc fitting and VAT.

    1.Windscreen has a sticker or other obstruction encroaching by more than 10mm within zone "A". [8.3.1b]
    2.Windscreen has a sticker or other obstruction encroaching into swept area by more than 40mm outside zone "A" [8.3.1e]
    3.Near side front coil spring cracked [2.4.c.1a] £85.00
    4.Offside front coil spring fractured [2.4.c.1a] £85.00
    5.Nearside rear upper (outer bush) Tie bar/rod has excessive play in a pin/bush £85.00
    6.Offside rear upper (outer bush) Tie bar/rod has excessive play in a pin/bush £85.00


    Oh and £27.95 for Tracking!
    Hefty bill, any thoughts?

    Far too expensive imo 100 quid tops for for the upper control arms fitted and about 120 tops for the springs fitted.

    Personally I would be buying a set of lowering springs and getting them fitted as replacement OE ones will probably break again

    My son worked at a kwik fit dump for a short while policy was to fit as many new part's as costly as possible,he only stayed 1 week and left after telling the manager what he thought of them,my advise go somewere decent start again

    Buy parts yourself, I used Eurocarparts .com and had them fitted by one of the members on here. For a small fee obviously. It will save you a load of cash.

    I've even heard of them deliberatly damaging things to get work too

    Am I not right in saying though that the SRI is already lowered? By buying lowering springs does it lower it much further?

    The drop that the spring manufacturers quote are on a standard Vec, as the sri is 15mm lower already you take that 15mm off the quoted drop

    Example: Eibach -30mm will on drop an sri around 15-20mm

    Yep - Kwik Fit = Quick rip-off

    They look for work, even when it is not needed.
    modern day Dick Turpins....
    I haven't been near there dumps for about 20 yrs...and then that was for a replacement battery...weren't going to let them get their hands on my car!! - fitted it myself!!
