    Default What's tech 2?

Hi, more used to low tech cars 1979-1986 until my Omega. Vectra something else altogether, working my way through "How to" lists.
Noticed one said if you have the blue connector behind centre dash blank traction control can just involve fitting the switch.
Thought I might be in luck as SRi XP has it, so SRI might be wired. Checked and I have blue connector under alarm slot.
Seen Tech2 mentioned a fair bit with electrical changes, what is it and would I need it done?

Tech2 is the computer system Vauxhall use to access your car's electronics. Due to the Canbus (click here for explanation of that) control systems used your car is more like a computer than a proper electrical circuit and as such there's a lot more it can do, but this means that adding stuff into it isn't simply a case of finding a 12V supply and an earth.

The Tech2 system is about 2-3 grand's worth of kit and apart from a few select people on here, only Vauxhall will have it. It allows activation of all sorts of extras on the car, fault diagnosis in real time, fault code reading etc...

Ok, I knew modern cars had more computer like set up, as you say, has downsides as well as advantages. Wasn't aware it had gone that far. Apart from a traction control switch, the "how to" for connecting the passenger side rear fog, and xenon dip beams, I have no plans for changes to the electrical system (did eye up the "how to" for autodipping rearview mirror and heated seats but my wife said "no" firmly)
Assume just plugging the traction control switch would be ok, or would it need tech 2 to tell ecu to turn it on?

There have been a multitude of threads on it over the years mate, but I believe the consensus in the end was that if you plugged it in and it didn't work, then you're stumped. No amount of Tech2 etc will help it or make it work.

I've got a 2007 3.0 Elite with every possible option on it, and it still doesn't work...

It did however finish off the dash nicely as it was the only blank that was there...
