I've driven a couple of 120D cars, and though not having the same refinement and quietness as the 3 or 5 series, they are very fast indeed.

I'm not a fan of the 1 series, though the coupe version with the boot does look much better, they drive and handle very well, and what impressed me was how quick they are, 0-60 in around 7.8 secs or less I think. I drive a late 330i and the acceleration of a good 120D from a standing start is not far behind at all.

I like my cars to be almost silent, and though not a noisy car the series one's could do with a bit more sound proofing IMO, road noise is more noticable too, other than that they are good, with superb fuel economy too. It sounds well specced, and I'm sure you will be most pleased with it, just a bit too small for me personally.

Is the car from a genuine BMW dealer, ie. come with a proper AUC BMW warranty. ?

In addition, it's worth mentioning in view of the cars mileage, that all BMW engines across the whole range since the late 90's use chains, and not cam belts, so thats one issue you don't have to worry about.

after bdriving the 120 decided it was not for me while it drove lovely and handled well it just didnt feel right and not much quicker than my 150 imho..also interior trim didnt impress with a lot of wear to the plastics so im sticking with my trusty vec for a little while more.........

What does the suspension feel like in comparison to the Vectra's?

Many of the reviews I've read tend towards the opinion that the M-Sport set up on BMW's is rather too stiff and harsh for comfort on UK roads ... perhaps excluding motorways.

I ask as my partner is interested in a similar car, though no test drive arranged yet.

We had a 118d sport from new for 3 yrs, it`s excellent as a 2nd car, fun to drive and handles very well but I couldn`t live with it as an only car. It`s too small inside, clutch is quite heavy and I always caught the footrest when pressing it.

The turbo went on ours at 11K miles but was replaced without any hassle.

On the 16" wheels without the RFT`s I`d say it felt much the same as my Sri on it`s 17`s.

yeah susspension is a bit harsh but not overly so, though what my wife didn't like was the heavy steering and a bit smaller than we expected
