Default Some info required as i cant seem to find it using search. 1.8vvt owners

    Hi Chaps.

As i posted in the " Introduce section" i would like to ask a few questions regarding the 1.8 vvt.

I cant seem to find much info on the engine apart from a couple of Mapping suggestions.

I would like to know , what are they averaging on fuel to owners?

What kind of power output to they give and im ashuming by variable valve timing they have to be revved hard for that extra power?

Are they a reliable engine and what kind of servicing recomendations would you suggest ie Oil changes and timing belt changes?

Is there anything i should know or can do ie De ristricting airbox (them kind of mods)

Any general information from owners would be much appreciated as i will (THURSDAY) be picking up a 07 Plate SRI with the full XP pack on inc 19" snowflakes, with only 25k on the clock from Greenhous in Hanley!

My 07 1.8 has just clocked over 110000 miles and runs and pulls like new, they aint quick by any means but offer reasonable performance and mpg. They do like to be revved and for best performance you really need 4500 rpm on the clock, but from their to the limiter it goes ok. Water pump on the vvt is no longer driven off the timing belt and the entire belt run design seems much better that the older version, mine had the belt and tensioners done at 107k and it all looked ok. Wouldnt reccomd you leave it this long but the official change is 100k. Its a fair sized car with a 140ps engine but if used hard it might surprise you, will get you over 130mph if thats your thing, enjoy! ps i only use 5-30 fully synth.

Thanks for the advice on this.

Is it woth doing Deristriction mods then or not?

One think i will be doing as a major (ish) first mod will be to lower it around 30-40 mm just to fill that gap on the front really, what would be reccomended as a good spring, i see all the usual PI and Apex on ebay but i would like to keep as much comfort as possible without loosing that on a cheap spring.

    Any suggestions?

You can derestrict the airbox as i am sure you know, i never thought only using half the filter was a great idea but if it was my money i would go for eibach springs. Your sri is already 15mm or so lower than the non sporting models so i big drop will lead to a harsher ride. The vvt,s do remap to another 10-20 bhp depending on who you believe. Anything beyond that is serious money and its prob easier to buy a 2.0t instead. I change the oil every 5k but thats my choice as i am sure its still got loads of life in it. Lowering is next for mine too, cant wait!

I lowered mine using EIBACH'S which is 30mm all round and it gives it a nice ride too.

    Eibachs it is then!

152 plus 12 quid postage on the bay , does that sound about right?

Mine will have the 19's on it so 30 mm should fill teh gap nicely!
