    Default Insignia Mapping

This will send a few bums twitching!

Apparently the new Insignia management logs every time the car is plugged into and where (dealers) and when.

Can also log each time a download is done, so basically if you get a BSR re-map for example, Vauxhall will be able to tell whilst plugged into TISWeb when the standard map was put back in!

At dealers, when a technician logs in on the computer with username/password etc, once plugged into the car the username and password are even logged so it goes back to the individual who carried out the work!

Scary stuff now don't you think! I can see why though to be fair but I don't think I'll be mapping mine just yet!

    Yeah, damn right!

I know now that Vauxhall have INSTRUCTED all dealers that have warranty claims for engine work to ask the customer if the car has been re-mapped.

If they say no and the dealer suspects other wise, the ECU is taken out and sent to Thorney Motorsport who then sends it to Superchips to have the engine map read.

It's standard practice on VXR's with engine trouble now.

sorry to hijack this thread have been watching your progress with mods on car and am a little confused as to why you would spend so much on a new car to mod vxr pack etc with the money you are planing to spend surely you would have been better geting vxr or even a beamer or audi with sports pack, theres no doubt the isgnia is a good car, but for me they dont offer much in the way of sports spec appart from vxr, they will have to offer more for me not to leave the vauxhall brand, audi offer much more,

Dude - have you seen the price of a second hand VXR...? Besides, he does enough mileage to warrant the diesel. And trust me, whatever you're thinking, he's thought of it all before...

    Simple answer to that question.

I do 30,000 miles a year and a VXR would be impossible to run on fuel costs alone.

BMW are good, but you don't much in them. Audi are just plain ****e. They are living on past reputation.

I spent £24k on a brand new A3 S-line 2.0T back in 2006 and it was the worst car we ever owned. 17 trips to the dealer in 15 months, won't go there again.

I spend the money on my cars because I can really, and it allows me to do my own thing.

After owning an Insignia now, Audi need to get their act together because the latest A4 is no better than the Insignia but you pay £000's more for it.

Also, I am not planning to spend loads more, £1000 for the styling pack, maybe but I also may leave it as it is.

Had heard that, nice to get confirmation.
So you really can't do any mods's on the engine mangement without VX knowing and covers them for warranty claims on the slightly weak items like the DMF.

Sounds like it. A dealer still can't see if the car has had a re-map by the diagnostic's alone, like Tech 2 on Vectra, but they can see when a file has been downloaded.

From this they can connect the car to TisWEB and the engineers in Opel/Germany can interogate the car over the net and delve in to see if everything is as it should be.

If this is the case it will be only a matter of time before someone breaks the encryption. Once broken a tuner could then hide his tracks
