    Default newbie after a signum

    Hi all

Im looking for a new car after getting rid of my is200 which was evil on petrol lol and iv always had a bit of a thing for signums and i was wondering in everyones opinion what are the 2.2 direct petrols like and the 2.2 dti's like.It has to be an auto as my dad drives the car as well. Are both these units any good ?Also what sort of real time mpg around town can i expect from both these units? Is there any faults i should look out for on both these units and which ones do people think are best?
    Thanks all.

I too am on the hunt for a Signum. Take a look Here. There's a couple of bits in this thread that I've been advised to look out for generally with them, and the main thing seems to be making sure the timing chain on the petrol version is sound ie no rattles. There seem to be a few about in both petrol and diesel guises if you look on ebay and autotrader for some idea.
Obviously don't look too hard at the one in the link - I want it!!

According to Parker's the 2.2 petrol does around 34mpg combined. The Dti auto does around 37mpg so it's not a big difference really. I guess it depends on whether you're a petrol or a diesel person!

The best all round Signum is the 2.0T, better on fuel than the 2.2 and a fair bit quicker.

I have had two Signums and loved both of them!

Hi Gary, I've got the 2.2 Direct Auto and round town (including a lot of short journeys of about 2 mile) I get around 25 mpg in the winter, this goes up to about 27 mpg in the summer, on the motoway about 35 mpg , and on a good steady run upto about 40 mpg. The 2.0 T is a good engine, but I don't think it comes in an auto.

No real facts, only what the reviews say, but the auto box seems to kill the 2.2 DTI, all round about 2-3 mpg more than the petrol.

I was surprised how much more diesels are affected when in auto guise but on looking around i think its because they use a different gearbox (certainly do in the vectra).

I've got a 2.2 direct auto vectra estate and get similar figures to signum dek
