Default Astra CDTi 150's.... different gearbox..??

I've always thought that with the Astra having a smaller body (and potentially lighter) the 150 CDTi version would be quicker than the Vectra's, but in the past I have had run ins with them and have always had the edge. It happened again this morning, I had the edge on it all the time - so my question was are the gearbox's different in the Astra's or are they heavier than they look..??

Dunno about that, my wife has a 120 SRi CDTi Astra, and its blummin rapid, i sware theres not much between my 150 CDTi before it was mapped...

Ive had a 150 CDTi astra hire car.. and from memory it was a pocket rocket... mind you, smaller cars, so maybe just feels quicker cause of that? I thought the figures on the astra where slightly better.... or are you talking mid range, i.e longer gearing on yours?

    I ran a 1.9 CDTi 150Astra for 13 months, and they are quicker than a Vectra 1.9 CDTi 150.

8.3 to 60 on the Astra, they run the M32 gearbox, the very last Vectra's ran M32's as well as the F40.

I would say from experience that if you have a standard Vectra 1.9 150 and you up against the Astra 1.9 150, then they were not really going for it. The Astra is that little bit quicker.

Mines not perfectly standard (filter, exhaust etc.), but isn't mapped or anything. I have come up against a few now and always the same result, maybe they had EGR issues

The experience I am talking about is midrange, not from standing, basically from 30+ / 50+ and 60+.

Maybe I should get mine whacked on a rolling road......

mid range though to be fair, the difference in weight is not so evident. The F40 in the Vectra does have a higher final drive than the M32 in the Astra, so the Astra will have to change gear sooner than the Vectra.

So this would explain what your saying. If you on a circuit though the Astra overall would be quicker. I remember taking my Astra round the Nurburgring and I had a fellow members Vectra 150 behind right up my arse at the beginning, but by the end of the lap he was well behind.

But on the Autobahn, mine hit the top speed limiter at 4000rpm in 6th gear, which is 138mph, and the same Vectra drove past me.

The Ring was fun, here's me pretending to be Mr Button!

    Fair enough, that explains it.

Been to the ring a couple of times myself now, but in my old Cupra R Leon - awesome, but the drive there and back were almost as good

It's great fun though isn't it! In 2007, I did the ring in my 3.0 CDTi Signum and it was not very good at all.

The 3.0 is not an engine that you want to rag about.
