Automatic headlight leveller help needed

I was driving my 3.2 GSi the other day and went over a pothole that I just could not avoid.

As soon as I drove over it I had a light come on on the dashboard. It is a picture of a headlight with two arrows, one pointing up and the other pointing down. After consulting the owners manual I found it is a warning light saying the automatic headlight leveller is faulty. This light stays on all the time.

Can anyone advise me on what I should do. I don't really want to take it to Vauxhalls as the garages I have local to me are all utterly useless. Are there any ways I could check components to see if they are working properly myself or is this a job for the professionals. I have spoken to a couple of mechanics I usually use and they didn't have the foggiest.

Now when I switch my lights on they just point at the floor, the nearside headlight shining slightly higher than the offside headlight. Before I would switch the lights on and they would reposition themselves. This tells me the servomotors are fine as surely it would only affect one light not both.

Possibly one of the load sensors on the suspension has come unplugged. No idea where they are though.
