    Default rippled discs

hi you all, just had tyres fitted to the back wheels and the mechanic told me there was a prob with my discs .he said that it looks like they have not been contacting correctly.i mean if you look at my ndiscs they look like they have not been working properly and it is like looking at a flat pond with ripples on if you know what i mean.went to dealers and told them caus 08 plate and still under warranty, stealers say only covers callipers and components.cannot understand what could have caused this.going to stealers on saturday but got to cough up diagnostic charge until they can diagnose if it a fault by the callipers.hopefully it is .any body got any ideas what it could be before i go to stealers .sorry forgot it is on both sides virtually identical sides which sounds very strange to me ,i dont hink it could be the discs or pads could it .thanks and i hope you can give me some good vice to take to the stealers

Not exactly sure what you mean by rippled , but if its ware rellated then they have possible been binding. And this has overheated the disc,s and warped them.

i know pictures would help but both sides nearly identical very rare would you not think.and i mean it is not just one ripple there must be on one disc about 12 or 13 ripple s at about 1/2 mm in height all the way down the discs.and they are rusty not clean and shiney like the front ones which i would of thought they would be .i know that they dont break as much as the front but they should still be shiney would you not say .one side i could slightly understand but not both .try ang get some pics but need help without pics for now ,thanks

i dont think they have been working .if you think of a round pond and splash in the middle you can see the ripple effect ,hope you understand a bit better.dont think they have been binding has they are not shiney

it tends to happen when cars are parked on forcourts for months the braking heat and lack of use causes poor wear

Difficult to say for sure without seeing them. From what you describe it sounds as if both calipers have seized, unusual but not impossible.

It could be that the car has simply had a hard life, constant heavy braking or riding the brakes causing heat to build up and warping the disks.

Parking up on the handbrake after heavy braking will also damage the disks as the heat is transferred only into small part of the disk (the pad contact patch), this expands, the rest does not and when it all cools down the disks will be irreparably warped.

Either way, the pads then wear inconsistently and over time form grooves is the disk which causes more heat and it's then a vicious cycle.
