    Default K & N Panel Filter

I thought I'd fit the panel filter after the rolling road yesterday and I'm sure that I can feel a difference in the car (even if its only a slight difference). My mate was saying its all psychological, but I argued saying there is a difference. Has anyone else experienced a difference after fitting their panel filter?

Although you will not get a massive bhp difference, the motor will rev a bit better!

I have had K&N panels in quite a few motors, when i have removed them for cleaning & when putting a new paper filter back for a couple of days, thats when you notice the difference!

A less restrictive panel will always have slight gains. I had a very small throttle response gain with the panel. I then completely got rid of the airbox and swapped in an Apollo Enclosed pod filter. No more flat spots, throttle response is even better and... It sounds AWESOME!

After 1 day with the panel filter in I thought I'd look through the 'How 2's section and see how to de-restrict your airbox. I noticed that a small plastic bit was removed from the bottom of the airbox, so as you do, I decided to remove mine. Took the car for another drive and me and the girlfriend both think that it doesn't feel as responsive with just the panel filter. Any of you done the same and noticed any kind of difference, good or bad?

I thought low down yes....Also... The airbox in a v6 vec b doesn't have any restrictions on the inside, just the airpipes leading to it, so must be a good thing

I'm surprised that anyone can feel any difference at all, since, even with a well used dirty stock filter, the air flow is more than enough for it to mix with the amount of fuel that even a box or remap can supply.

Diesels are 'excess air' engines, which means that under most conditions there is already a more than adequate supply of air to mix with the fuel without having to resort to adding more air.

Only if you habitually run the engine under full load or at maximum revs (black smoke conditions, where overfuelling could be occuring) will any gain, if any at all, be got.
