Smile Wind Noise (not Mr W!)

    Hello

What a great website! I just signed up today.

I have recently PX'd my 1998 Vectra 1.8i Arctic 5 dr hatch (premium blue) - gorgeous - after 12 wonderful years of enjoyable and problem free motoring. Just a change of battery and one engine sensor thingy (sorry I'm not technical) required.

On Saturday, I bought (from my local dealership) a 2008 Vectra C 1.9 Cdti Elite (150) 5 dr hatch (silver) with 28000 miles on the clock. Sorry I don't have a picture to submit yet as it's so new to me but it is very swanky with heated leather seats: the way to a lady's heart on a cold winters day!

Yesterday, Mr W and I took her for a 200 mile round trip to Surrey on the motorways and found that at a certain speed, only to be described as a fast, comfortable and safe cruising in appropriate road and weather conditions, there was a REALLY loud and unpleasant vibrating wind noise, like when there is a window open at the back. We stopped at the services to check all doors, windows, sunroof, hatch etc and found no obvious cause. It seems to come from the rear of the car but I appreciate noises can be deceiving.

I also noticed considerable vibration through the steering wheel and wondered if the wheels/tyres need tracking/balancing but perhaps this is a separate issue...

I have seen another thread regarding tyre noise. I believe we do have the original factory fitted Conti tyres (245/45 - 18'' alloys). Could this really be the cause or does anyone have any other advice or suggestions - apart from drive slowly!?

Sorry if I have waffled on - I am new to this forum stuff too. Hope the title isn't too rude - I don't want to be reported on my first day - but we all need a smile!

Thanking you all in advance for your time.

With kind regards - Mrs W

    hi and welcome

it sound like your wheels need to be ballanced.
also some tyres on a veccy make a droaning noise so try changing the wheels from front to back and see if that makes a differance.
