Default Talk to me about v6 diesels.

I have been looking at another car as i really need an estate and a diesel.

What are the common faults if any on the v6 diesel? What are the running costs like, are they belt driven if so when does this need changed? please feel free to add good or bad points about the 3.0

    Cheers guys

Belts need changing at 100,000, running cost are pretty good. If your main driving is motorway mpg is very good. Arround town they are better then any petrol but not as good as the 1.9's. Parts are more expensive then other vec engines, but they are more reliable.

    Vehicle : Opel Signum

    Trim : Sport

    Engine : 3.0 CDTI

    Year : 12/03

Servicing is more expensive as it takes around 7.5L of oil and the oil filter is hideously expensive at dealers. Belt at 150.000km/90k miles.
I won't talk about reliablity. I had 2 and both proved to be terrible. The first one went through 2 EGRs, 1 set of injectors, fuel pump (suction control valves), turbo and MAF sensor. So basically the whole engine, which cost me 2.5k €.
My current one is at the dealer for suspected fuel pump failure and alternator issues, but this time I've 2 months of warranty on it so I'm not that bothered at all.

    When buying/test driving beware of:
-black smoke under heavy acceleration = EGR
-gray smoke under heavy acceleration = possible injector issue
-knocking under acceleration from low revs (1200rpm-1400rpm) in high gear (3th, 4th, 5th) = injectors
-constant judder at 1500rpm under steady throttle = injectors
-judder through low revs from 1400rpm to 1800rpm = fuel pump

DO NOT BUY ONE WITHOUT A HEFTY WARRANTY!!!!

    HTH

    Buy the 1.9 150

They are not all as bad as everyone makes out. In terms of reliability it will be hit or miss but it's a brilliant car and you can tune it easily to make it quicker and more economical than the V6

I had a bad experience with my old CDTi vectra which has put me off but when i had it running well with tuning box it was a cracking engine, just a pity about the poor quality components letting it down..
