    Default Cruise control not working?

Hi guys, its looking like my cruise control function is on the blink,
Sometimes it will kick in when I press the button on the end of the left hand indicator stem but then turns it self off again if I try to increase or decrease speed using the two buttons either side. Then it wont turn on again for days sometimes, has anybody experienced this at all? Does anybody have an ideas as to what it could be? Faulty microswitch in the stem or something?
    cheers

It could be the switch on the clutch. It does become saggy and rest against the switch. There is also a switch on the brake pedal too that could cause the problem

I'm having the same problem. At first I thought it was me, as I have only had the car 5 months and thought I may be me getting used to it. However I did a 500 mile journey and the more I used it the less it played up. I will look into and advise also, if you find anything, can you chuck me a message?

    Cheers

I have the same problem as you. The cruise does engage but switches itself off automatically. Sometimes it goes off straight away sometimes it will stay on for 10 mins.

This is what I have tried and learnt from this forum :-):

    1) Clean the stalk contacts. I started off by cleaning the indicator stalk contacts. This worked for a while. But now the cleaning has no effect.
    4) Check the pedal springs and switches. There are microswitches and springs on both the brake and the clutch pedals which are used to turn the Cruise control off (if the pedals are pressed)
To test if these may be a problem you can try and stick your foot under each pedal and hold them up. If the cruise stays on then its likely to be a problem with the spring/microswitch under that pedal.
This doesn't seem to be my problem.
    3) Replace the indicator stalk. I have changed the indicator stalk and this did not make any difference.
    4) Check for and clear faults codes. I bought a fault code reader and I have two faults that keep reappearing both of them CIM related (a Cruise Control Malfunction and a Wiper Control function). The CIM is the electronic computer that control, amongst other things, the Cruise Control.
    5) Replace the CIM. I think my CIM needs replacing but its quite expensive, and not really a DIY job as the CIM needs to be programmed out of the car and the new one programmed into the car.

I have had the same problem recently. I plugged in the laptop and ran a fault code scan on the CIM and it comes up with something along the lines of "cruise control intermittent signal from circuit".

I removed the stalk and cleaned the contacts with isopropyl alcohol. Hasn't happened again as yet. If it does I will replace the CIM (I have the necessary kit to sort this).

Stampede: Hopefully your stalk clean will work for you as the fault code doesn't sound that serious.

    My fault codes are:

B3700 - Wiper Interval Circuit Malfunction
    (0F) - Not present

B3794 - Switch Cruise Control Circuit Malfunction
    (08) - Not present

Don't like the sound of "Malfunction"...

If you ever change your CIM let me know. I might be asking you a few questions on how you did it

I took the car into VX to fix a performance issue. They replaced a couple of vacuum hoses and reset the fault codes.

When in the garage I asked about the cruise control and they said it needs a new CIM which would cost £480 fitted. So I said no thinks I live without cruise.

But, now my performance is back and so is my cruise control, touch wood.

The cruise control has not failed in the last 3 weeks since it was in the garage?!?!?!?!?

I still get the same fault codes listed as before:

B3700 - Wiper Interval Circuit Malfunction
    (0F) - Not present

B3794 - Switch Cruise Control Circuit Malfunction
    (08) - Not present

Maybe the car knew it had an engine/performance problem and therefore wouldn't let the cruise engage???

I bought my 03 Vectra Dual Fuel about a month ago and I have managed to get the cruise control to work once.. I have tried the lifting up the pedals trick no joy. I was having some issues with the emmisions light coming on however I think I have figured that out. Dont fill up with LPG at Shell ...

I am thinking that this may be causing the failure of cruise control ..

regarding the springs on the brake and clutch are they visable from the inside of the car?

Hi, bought my 04 vectra estate 2 months ago, one of the reasons I bought it was for the cruise control, which unfortunately does not work, changed the stalk and brake / clutch switches no joy, read the book and found that the light to indicate cruise control should appear on the dash for a few seconds .... it doesn't read the manual to see if there was a fuse to check no mention of cruise control, tried the pedal pulling up thing, no joy pressing brake thing.. no joy any ideas why the light wont come on??? HELP PLEASE... rovingmike....

If it doesn't come on at all, then it's likely to be the clutch spring, or the stalk, or the clutch switch.

Edit: If it's engaging and going off on its own then the clutch switch could be the culprit. No EML is produced, but Tech2 will identify that error. Just had mine sorted.
